Meeting with the Hon. Deputy Assistan Minister and Deputy Director-General of the International Cooperation Bureau of Ministry of Foreign Affairs Japan to Deliver Documents About Afghanistan’s Candidate to UN's International Organization for Migration (IOM).

April 26, 2019: It was an honor for H.E. Ambassador Dr. Bashir Mohabbat to meet with Hon. Deputy Assistan Minister and Deputy Director-General Mr. Masahiko Kiya, of the Middle Eastern and African Affairs Bureau of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Tokyo to present the official endorsement request Letter from H.E. President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani, President of the Islamic republic of Afghanistan, and the documents pertaining to Afghanistan’s candidature, Hon. Dr. Suraya Dalil, for election to the UN International Organization for Migration (IOM) at the elections to be held in Geneva on June 21, 2019. Also in attendance was Mr. Basir Ahmad Hamdard, First Secretary.

H.E. Ambassador Dr. Bashir Mohabbat thanked Hon. Mr. Kiya for making time in his schedule to meet with them. On behalf of the people and Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, H.E. Dr. Mohabbat thanked Hon. Mr. Kiya for the very longtime friendly relationship between Japan and Afghanistan. He expressed his thanks to the people and Government of the noble nation of Japan who have sincerely helped Afghanistan achieve great strides in progress on the road towards stability, peace, and prosperity – serving as the ideal role model and proponent for peace.
In return, Hon. Mr. Kiya thanked H.E. Dr. Mohabbat for meeting with him, his kind words, assured him of passing along the information to the proper authorities and to again give the candidacy of Hon. Dr. Suraya Dalil their full consideration, and vowed Japan’s continued support of Afghanistan in its development. H.E. Dr. Mohabbat further apprised Hon. Mr. Kiya of the most recent developments regarding the progress and expansions related to the peace process. Hon. Mr. Kiya expressed his thanks for the full briefing and was very impressed and interested in the most current steps and developments in the Afghan-owned and Afghan-led process towards peace. Moreover, he remarked on the great initiative and leadership by H.E. President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani through these endeavors and also promised that people and Government of Japan would fully continue to support and stand by the Afghan people in an Afghan-lead and Afghan-owned peace process well into the future.
