Top Students of Kanagawa Prefectural Yokohama Suiran High School’s International Understanding Department Visits the Embassy.

July 26 2017: The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan had the honour and pleasure of receiving a visit from students of Kanagawa Prefectural Yokohama Suiran High School, one of Japan’s highest ranking high schools.

Attending the event were several of Suiran High School’s top students from the International Understanding Department. The distinguished guests were received by Mr. Ashraf Baburi, Administrative and Accounting Affairs Officer, and Ms. Allyson Diaz, Public Relations Officer. The event began with a presentation on the long history and beautiful culture of Afghanistan, while the students enjoyed Afghan snacks and tea.

The presentation and following question and answer round provided a unique and in-depth educational experience for the students. In addition, the students were given the opportunity to try on traditional Afghan clothing and pose for personal pictures. The students were given a tour of the facility by Embassy intern Mr. Yoku Morimoto, who also organized a well received end of visit game-show style quiz, at which prizes were given out to the winning students.

With the visit completed, the students thanked the Embassy staff for their time and expressed sincere appreciation for the singular opportunity. The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan is committed to fostering a depth of knowledge and supporting positive community relations, and hopes to continue to hold such events many times in the future.

July 25, 2017: Mr. Asif Agah, Second Secretary and Cultural Affairs Officer, Mr. Ashraf Baburi, Administrative and Accounting Affairs Officer, and Ms. Allyson Diaz, Public Relations Officer, and Ms. Erina Kondo, Intern, met with Imagine Oneworld Kimono Project representative Ms. Orie Shimizu and Ms. Tamae Ueda, kimono designer at the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan.

Since the last meet, Ms. Ueda had divulged into Afghan culture, craftsmanship, and artistry, returning to the Afghan Embassy to display her beautiful initial design for the Afghan Kimono. The design had beautifully captivated Afghan culture.
The Afghan Embassy was thrilled with Ms. Ueda's kimono design, thanking her and Ms. Shimizu for the opportunity to display Afghan culture with Japanese culture. In return, Ms. Shimizu and Ms. Ueda thanked the members of the Afghan Embassy for their kind words and their full cooperation on the preparation for designs.

22 March 2017: Board member Mrs. Hiroko Tanaka and Mrs. Keiko Kawai from the Women’s Federation For World Peace (WFWP) visited the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Embassy and met with the First Secretary of Political Affair Mr. Basir Ahmad Hamdard. Mrs. Tanaka and Mrs. Kawai are close friends of Mr. Hamdard as they met during a homestay in 2008 when Mr. Hamdard was taking Japanese language courses and studied Japanese culture in Osaka.

The WFWP was established in 1991, and works to empower women to be peacebuilders and leaders in their communities around the world. They want to achieve this through education, advocacy, partnership, reconciliation and humanitarian service. Their Headquarters is in Tokyo, but the organization also has offices in South Korea and Taiwan with 10 000 members operating in 143 countries.
The WFWP have been working in Afghanistan in over 20 years, one of their more successful projects have been their sewing projects, where they have provided equipment’s like sewing machines for women to do tailoring work. The idea is to encourage self-employment.

Mr. Hamdard urged the WFWP to invest in more skilled labor projects in the future to help with the Afghan Women’s situation. Mrs. Tanaka and Mrs. Kawai said they would like to send teachers to Afghanistan to help the women there when the situation is better.

July 19, 2017: On this auspicious day, His Excellency Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in Japan, Dr. Bashir Mohabbat presented his Letter of Credence to His Majesty the Emperor of Japan.

Accompanying H.E. Ambassador Dr. Mohabbat were the distinguished diplomats of the Afghan Embassy: Mr. Ahmad Bashir Ghafoori, First Secretary and Consul; Mr. Basir Ahmad Hamdard, First Secretary; Mr. Asif Agah, Second Secretary; and Mr. Abdulzaman Akbari, Third Secretary.

The delegation was welcomed just outside of the Imperial Palace in Tokyo to prepare for the meeting with H.M. the Emperor of Japan in order for H.E. Dr. Mohabbat to present his credentials as the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan to Japan.

The event comprised several prestigious, ritualized protocol ceremonies which showcased many magnificent aspects of Japanese diplomacy. The Ambassador and his company were escorted by His Excellency Mr. Hideyuki Iizuka, Master of Ceremonies of the Imperial Household Agency, in state vehicles through the palace gates to their meeting with His Majesty the Emperor of Japan.228
At this time, H.E. Dr. Mohabbat expressed his earnest and deep respects for this most profound honor. He also shared a message direct from H.E. President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani, on behalf of the people and Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, to His Majesty conveying sincere gratitude and the utmost appreciation for the benevolent support and resolute connection Japan has shown toward Afghanistan and her people.

July 13, 2017: Mr. Ghafoori, First Secretary and Consul of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in Japan, attended the 30th Peace Diplomats Forum held at the Hotel Leport Kojimachi. The event was organized by the Universal Peace Federation, whose mission is to promote individuals and organizations that help build peace across the world. The keynote address was given by Prof. Mariko Kawano, Professor of International Law at Waseda University School of Law. The topic of the address was “The Rule of Law in the Sea and Japan’s Ocean Policy.”

After the opening speech, there was time for the diplomats to converse among themselves about the issues that had been raised. Mr. Ghafoori had the pleasure to speak with Mr. Yasuhiro Ishii, the Executive Director of the Peace Diplomats Forum, and Mr. Masahisa Hayashi, Representative Director of the Institute for Peace Policies and Professor Emeritus at Waseda University and Yokohama City University. Mr. Ghafoori was able to discuss with them various matters related to the challenges of building peace in the world today.
Mr. Ghafoori additionally had the opportunity to confer with Prof. Mariko Kawano. They discussed many issues related to the keynote address and the difficulties that must be overcome in order to make the world a more peaceful place for citizens of all nations.

July 6, 2017: Mr. Ahmad Bashir Ghafoori, Chargé d’ Affaires ad interim and First Secretary and Consul at the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in Japan, had the pleasure of attending the reception in celebration of the 241st anniversary of American independence at the United States of America’s Ambassador’s residence.

Mr. Ghafoori had the pleasure of meeting and talking with Mr. Jason Hyland, Chargé d’ Affaires ad interim of the USA Embassy. Mr. Ghafoori thanked Mr. Hyland for the continuous support that America has provided to Afghanistan and hopes for the continuation of strong relations. In return, Mr. Hyland thanked Mr. Ghafoori for his kind words and reassured that strong relations would continue. Mr. Ghafoori also exchanged pleasantries with His Excellency Mr. Kozo Yamamoto, Minister of State for Regional Revitalisation, Regulatory Reform, Administrative Reform, and Civil Service Reform, and Honourable Mr. Hirotaka Ishihara, former Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs.

April 6, 2017: It was an honor for H.E. Ambassador Dr. Sayed M. Amin Fatimie to have a meeting with his long time friend, House of Councillors Member, and Chief Representative of the Komeito Party, H.E. Mr. Natsuo Yamaguchi at his office in the House of Councillors Headquarters in Nagatacho, Tokyo Japan. He was accompanied by Dr. Bashir Mohabbat, Minister-Counsellor for the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in Japan.

H.E. Ambassador Dr. Fatimie thanked H.E. Mr. Yamaguchi for making time in his schedule to meet with him. H.E. Dr. Fatimie further thanked him for the long time friendly relationships between Japan and Afghanistan as well as between themselves. He expressed his thanks to the people and Government of the noble nation of Japan who have sincerely helped Afghanistan achieve great strides in progress on the road towards stability, peace, and prosperity. In return, H.E. Mr. Yamaguchi thanked H.E. Dr. Fatimie for meeting with him, his kind words, and assured him of Japan’s continued support of Afghanistan in its development. All those present further discussed many topics of mutual interest.

April 4, 2017: At the kind invitation of the Arab Diplomatic Corps, H.E. Ambassador Dr. Sayed M. Amin Fatimie attended a reception at the Imperial Hotel in Tokyo in honor of Arab Day and to celebrate Arab-Japanese friendship and solidarity. The event was organized by the Council of Ambassadors; the Heads of the Arab Diplomatic Missions in Tokyo; and the Dean of the Arab Diplomatic Corps.

H.E. Mr. Waleed Siam, Dean of Arab Diplomatic Corps and Ambassador of Permanent General Mission of Palestine, gave opening remarks to the many honored guests in attendance. He was followed by a speech given by H.E. Mr. Shinzo Abe, Prime Minister of Japan, delivered an inspirational message on the occasion.

While in attendance at this event, H.E. Ambassador Dr. Fatimie had the pleasure in meeting with Honorable Mr. Motohiro Ono, Member of the House of Councillors and Director of the Committee on Foreign Affairs and Defense, as well as several of Their Excellencies the Ambassadors and other distinguished guests who were present. H.E. Dr. Fatimie expressed his best wishes to all he met on behalf of the people and Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan. Dr. Fatimie expressed that the support and cooperation of the Arab nations and the OIC has been instrumental in Afghanistan’s quest for peace and development, fostering evident progress. Furthermore, Ambassador Fatimie wished all Arab nations, and Palestine within this, prosperity and peace.

July 3rd, 2017: Mr. Ahmad Bashir Ghafoori, Chargé d’ Affaires ad interim and First Secretary and Consul at the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanisan in Japan, had the honour and pleasure of attending the special exhibition, “Thailand: Brilliant Land of the Buddha,” at the Tokyo National Museum in Ueno.
The exhibition was displayed in celebration of 130 years of amity and friendship in diplomatic relations between Thailand and Japan. The exhibition featured over one hundred beautiful artifacts and pieces of art, showcasing the rich history and culture of Thailand. As such, the event fostered a depth of understanding of the Thai people amongst all attendees. The interactions at this beautifully displayed event did much to enhance and strengthen the bond between the Japanese, the Thai, and the Afghan communities and diplomats.
Mr. Ghafoori had the pleasure of meeting and talking with His Excellency, Mr. Bansarn Bunnag, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Thailand to Japan, and Dr. Chaweerat Kasetsoontorn, Vice Minister for Culture of the Thai Embassy. Mr. Ghafoori congratulated H.E. Mr. Bunnag and Dr. Kasetsoontorn for being able to display their rich history at the exhibition. In return, H.E. Mr. Bunnag and Dr. Kasetsoontorn thanked Mr. Ghafoori for his kind words and attendance. Mr. Ghafoori also spoke with Mr. Zeniya Masami, Executive Director of the Tokyo National Museum, about mutual interests.
