September 29, 2016: His Excellency Ambassador Dr. Sayed Mohammad Amin Fatimie had the pleasure of attending the 67th Anniversary of the Establishment of the People's Republic of China.
It was a great honor for H.E. Ambassador Dr. Sayed Mohammad Amin Fatimie to attend the 67th National Day of People’s Republic of China, greeted by H.E. Ambassador Mr. Cheng Yonghua. H.E. Ambassador Dr. Fatimie, on behalf of the people and the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, congratulated H.E. Ambassador Mr. Cheng for the occasion, expressed the appreciation for China’s cooperation for redevelopment of Afghanistan and his wishes for the well being of the people, the Government of China, and the neighboring relationship of the two countries, Afghanistan and China. In response H.E. Ambassador Mr. Cheng expressed his appreciation for H.E. Dr. Fatimie’s attendance and appreciation, and that H.E. Mr. Cheng, too, wishes to maintain good neighboring ties.

It was also a great pleasure for H.E. Ambassador Dr. Fatimie to communicate once again with his friend the Honorable Mr. Natsuo Yamaguchi, president of the New Komeito Party to whom he expressed his gratitude for seeing and with whom he discussed may topics of mutual interest. He also met and spoke with Mr. Akihiro Ota, chairman the of Komeito Party; Komeito party politician, parliamentary secretary for agriculture forestry and fisheries Mr. Yakura Katsuo; the Honorable President of the Japan Educational Exchanges and Services, Mr. Masayuki Inoue; Mr. Shinjiro Komtasu; the Honorable Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, and many other key members of the Diet, officials from the Japanese government, Ambassadors stationed in Tokyo, and other distinguished guests.

Visiting a Mine in Hiroshima Prefecture

September 27-28: Dr. Mohabbat visited a mine managed by the Shokozan Mining Company Co., Ltd. at Shobara City in Hiroshima Prefecture.
He was met by a warm welcome by Mr. Shujiro Yano, the President of the Shokozan Mining Company Co., Ltd., together with other key staff. Dr. Mohabbat was given an extensive tour of the mine and discussed with Mr. Yano about the great gain potential in Afghanistan-Japan mineral trade. The company has expressed interest in importing talc soapstone from Afghanistan’s Nanggarhar province. The company has experience of handling this kind of stone for over 60 years, having already reached import deals with China, India and Pakistan but now looking to Afghanistan for its excellent soapstone deposits.

The popular soapstone is often a fundamental ingredient in the production of plastic, ceramics, papers, baby powder, cosmetics, foods, medicine, among other consumer goods.
Afghanistan has talcs and other mineral desposits that are of world-renowned quality, which explains the recent surge in interest by enterprises worldwide to secure trade deals with the country. For Afghanistan, mineral trade is not only a positive business opportunity, but also an excellent way to forge bonds with new nations and to strengthen its many existing relationships.

October 4, 2016: Dr. Mohabbat attended the Awarding Ceremony and Opening Reception of a photo exhibition hosted by the Embassy of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.

This year’s photo exhibition was skillfully named “Japan: Scintillating and serene”. The event was held in presence of Her Imperial Highness Princess Takamado, Honorary Chairperson of the Committee. The exhibition encourages the contribution of ambassadors’ and diplomats’ artworks, and the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan was no exception.

Dr. Mohabbat had the chance to marvel at many displays, including a contribution by H.E. Dr. Sayed Mohammad Amin Fatimie, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan. His Excellency’s artwork, titled “The Sky and the Sea”, is a photograph of a picturesque scene of dusk falling upon the city of Tokyo. The city’s famous Rainbow Bridge can be spotted in the background, behind which is a stretch of Tokyo’s skyline.

September 27, 2016: It was a pleasure for Mr. Basir Ahmad Hamdard, First Secretary of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in Tokyo, to receive representatives from the Japanese red Cross Society as guests at the embassy. Mr. Yukiya Saito, Director of International Department, Operations Sector, and Mr. Taro Fujisaki, Planning and Coordination Division of the International Department’s Operations Sector, were in attendance.
They kindly came to the embassy in order to discuss areas of mutual interest between their organization and Afghanistan, most importantly, how to best foster continuous support between them. The representatives thanked Mr. Hamdard for Afghanistan’s assistance in the aftermath of Japan’s Great Tohoku Earthquake of 2011. In return, Mr. Hamdard thanked them for their aid and infrastructural help to Afghanistan, their many hospitals and health centers which have helped improved health standards for the citizens. He also kindly requested their continued assistance, particularly with helping to integrate and care for the many returning refugees.

H.E. Ambassador Dr. Fatimie took the opportunity to extend his deepest gratitude, on behalf of the people and Government of the Islamic Republic Afghanistan, to the Kingdom and H.M., through H.E. Ambassador Mr. Al Barrak, to wish sincerest congratulations on this most auspicious day. As Saudi Arabia has lent generous and significant cooperation to Afghanistan in the peace process, H.E. Dr. Fatimie further conveyed his hope that the Kingdom would see another year of peace and prosperity, his wishes for the welfare of the people of the country, and his desire that the two nations would continue grow closer. His Excellency Prime Minister Shinzo Abe delivered a policy speech on the resolution in protest of the fifth nuclear test in the region during the plenary session.

The opening address was given by Mrs. Kiyoko Fukuda, former First Lady and Director of Parent & Child Handbook Association, who gave the reasoning behind the book’s beginnings. Dr. Masamine Jimba, professor of University of Tokyo’s Department of Community Medicine and Global Health Graduate School of Medicine, spoke on the wisdom and twists derived from using the MCH Book. Mrs. Sumie Ishii, Chairperson of JOICEF, spoke on the subsequent ‘one-stop service to save the lives of mother and newborns’ that the MCH Book has afforded. After a question & answer period, the closing address was given by Mrs. Haruko Komura, Director of Mother & Child Health Handbook Association.

As Maternal Morbidity is a concern worldwide, much attention has been paid to find ways to reduce or prevent the risk so that healthy mothers can produce and raise children well. Children hold the key to running the future, thus so too is their safety and survival paramount. The fundamental key to this, as well as to other areas of contemporary global concern, is through education and awareness. Following the event, H.E. Ambassador Dr. Fatimie spoke with Mrs. Komura to whom he expressed his thanks for hosting a very informative evening.

September 16, 2016: It was a pleasure for His Excellency Ambassador Dr. Sayed M. Amin Fatimie in hosting a luncheon reception and prayer gathering in honor of Martyrs’ Week at the embassy in Tokyo. It was attended by several dignitaries, special guests, and Afghan citizens in Japan.

The Opening address was given by Mr. Asif Agah, Second Secretary of the Embassy, who welcomed all in attendance. In his opening remark, H.E. Ambassador Dr. Fatimie extended his welcome and discussed the significance of the occasion. A couple of the special guests also spoke and offered up prayers.

After all had spoken, H.E. Dr Fatimie invited the guests to partake in the Afghan dishes prepared by the Embassy which were served for all to enjoy. Following the luncheon, there was a led prayer which many of the guests present partook in, in honor of the auspicious occasion.

This year’s event was entitled “Asian Security Dynamics and NATO Partnerships” and was held at the InterContinental Hotel.

The welcoming remarks were given by Dr. Beatrice Gorawantschy, Director of Regional Programme Political Dialogue Asia and the Pacific; Mr. Zsolt Rabai, Coordinator for Partners Across the Globe and Contact Countries, Engagements Section for the Public Diplomacy Division of NATO; and H.E. Ambassador Dr. Hans Carl von Werthern, Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Japan. They Keynote speech was given by Mr. Nobushige Takamizawa, former Chief Cabinet Secretary, Director General of National Information Security Center, and Deputy Secretary General of National Security Secretariat for Japan.

After the opening remarks was the panel discussion chaired by Dr. Carlo Masala, Professor at the University of the Federal Armed Forces in Munich, Germany. On the panel besides the afore mentioned Mr. Takamizawa were Mr. Shyam Saran, Chairman of Research and Information System for Developing Countries for the Republic of India; Brigadier General Ranier Meyer zum Felde, Representative for the Federal Republic of Germany to NATO; and Mr. James Mackey, Head for euro-Atlantic and Global Partnership Office for the Political Affairs and Security Division of NATO. Following the panel discussion where Mr. Hamdard expressed his thanks to the hosts of the event who in return thanked him for coming.

Dr. Bashir Mohabbat, Minister-Counsellor, attended the G7 CONNEX Initiative International Conference on Capacity Building and Transparency at the JICA Ichigaya Building in Tokyo, Japan. This was a follow-up to the G7 Ise-Shima Summit which Dr. Mohabbat was very pleased and honored to attend.

At the two-day conference, Dr. Mohabbat met with many dignitaries and state officials with whom he discussed many issues commonly shared. In particular, he had the pleasure in meeting and Mr. Manmohan Parkash, Advisor COSO & Head of Portfolio Management Unit with Central Operations Services Unit of the Asian Development Bank with whom he expressed great thanks for all of their assistance in the rebuilding process in Afghanistan. He also had the pleasure of Speaking with Ms. Misako Takahashi, Director of Economic Security Division and Economic Affairs Bureau of Ministry of Foreign Affairs Japan to who he expressed great thanks for the tremendous and continuous support in so many anvenues in the peace, stability, and development of Afghanistan. Dr. Mohabbat further expressed appreciation to all the dignitaries present for the continuous generous support of the people and government of Japan and other countries’ representative with whom he spoke in assisting with Afghan reconstruction, and wished for continuous friendship between them and Afghanistan.

September 15, 2016: Mr. Basir Ahmad Hamdard, First Secretary, had the pleasure and honor of attending the meeting to elect the new president of the Democratic Party of Japan.
This was the first election for the party since the merging of the Democratic Party of Japan and the Japan Innovation Party and proved to be an exciting event. Of the three candidates running: the Honorable Ms. Renho, Member of the House of Councillors; the Honorable Mr. Seiji Maehara, Member of the House of Representatives; and Mr. Yuichiro Tamaki, Member of the House of Representatives; Ms. Renho was elected the new party president.

Mr. Hamdard met and spoke with several dignitaries, heads of missions, and other people in attendance such as the Honorable Mr. Kenzo Fujisue, Member of the House of Councillors, and Mr. Sekio Masuta, Member of the House of Representatives, to whom they extended greetings, sincere appreciation for their assistance in the rebuilding process in Afghanistan, and a desire to continue the warm relations between the two countries.

September 9, 2016: H.E. Ambassador Dr. Sayed M. Amin Fatimie had the honor and privilege in receiving dignitaries from Shanti Volunteer Association (SVA) at the embassy. Mr. Basir Ahmad Hamdard, First Secretary for the Embassy, who had formerly been a SVA Teacher Trainer from 2004-2006, was also in attendance to receive them.
Mr. Takafumi Miyake, Director and Afghanistan Office R&D Officer as well as Secretary General for Japan NGO Network for Education (JNNE); Ms. Eri Yamamoto, International Program Division Chief; and Ms. Kyoko Ito, International Program Division and Afghanistan Program Officer were invited into H.E. Ambassador Dr. Fatimie’s office for tea and a discussion about the many wonderful programs SVA has yielded to help benefit the people of Afghanistan.

H.E. Dr. Fatimie awarded the SVA Representatives with a certificate of appreciation on behalf of the people and Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan. In return he was kindly gifted two children’s books published by SVA, one in Dari, the other in Pashto, produced for children in Afghanistan which have been added to the embassy’s Albiruni Library.

H.E. Dr. Fatimie Hosts a Luncheon Interview for the International School Network

September 8, 2016: It was the pleasure of His Excellency Ambassador Dr. Sayed M. Amin Fatimie in hosting a lunch and interview for representatives from International School Network Japan. He and Dr. Bashir Mohabbat, Minister-Counsellor for the embassy, greeted the guest upon their arrival.
In Attendance from the International School Network were Mrs. Orie Nishina, Chief Manager; Mr. Masayuki Nishina, CEO; Miss Madoka Nishina, Director; Miss Kate Shimizu, Assistant Director; and trainees Mr. Ryota Moriai and Miss Momoka Yamamoto.

H.E. Ambassador Dr. Fatimie and Dr. Mohabbat commenced the event by giving a brief overview of the amicable relations between Afghanistan and Japan. The further displayed for the representatives of the International School Network many examples of aspects from Afghan culture and music. H.E. Ambassador Dr. Fatimie and Dr. Mohabbat communicated to them that they will become Japan's future leaders in their respective fields and encouraged them to learn more about Afghanistan and its people so that they can work to further unite the peoples of Afghanistan and Japan in a future based on mutual partnership.

The guests were invited to partake in a delicious lunch of several Afghan dishes prepared by the Embassy staff. During this time H.E. Dr. Fatimie and Dr. Mohabbat answered the students’ questions. Following the luncheon interview the students were given a tour of the embassy grounds by former Public Relations Officer, Mr. Jason Pratt.
