June 3, 2016: Dr. Bashir Mohabbat, Minister-Counsellor, Mr. Abdulzaman Akbari, Third Secretary, and Mr. Yuki Takeda, Public Relations Officer, attended Afghanistan Day at Toyo Gakuen University. In its 90th year of operations, the university is seeking to embrace the international pull of education and post-education employment. As a precursor for this, it opened a new era, according to Special Lecturer Mr. Jason Pratt, of internationalization with an inaugural globalized event with Afghanistan Day. More than 10% of the school's students attended, despite their busy schedules. Activities included a speech by Dr. Mohabbat; Afghan music by a Japanese band Chalpasah; a corner to try on Afghan clothes; traditional story time; video showing; and the writing of names in the alphabet employed in Afghanistan. A great success, Chairperson Ezawa and President Harada passed, on behalf of the university, a letter of appreciation to His Excellency Ambassador Dr. Fatimie through Dr. Mohabbat. Vice President Dan and Professor Sakamoto were also in attendance at the ceremony.

Yuki Takeda, Public Relations Officer for the Embassy of Afghanistan, stated that “events such as these are proof that the two countries continue to make the Silk Road of old a shorter distance, and even more culturally connected route.” Mr. Pratt stated “I am thus so grateful that the embassy, Afghans, and friends of Afghanistan blessed our school with their presence at this, our largest event in recent history. Many students expressed a new interest in this most deserving of nations.”
