Attendance at the “A World Free from Mines” Reception.

June 11, 2019: His Excellency Ambassador Dr. Bashir Mohabat had the pleasure attending the “A World Free from Mines” reception, recognizing Japan’s contribution to the ‘Landmind Free 2025’, hosted by HALO Trust and the NPO Association for Aid and Relief Japan (AAR), at the Imperial Hotel in Tokyo.
Afghanistan is one of the countries most effected by landmines. Since 1989, 79% of Afghan land contaminated by landmines have been deactivated by Afghan de-mining efforts which is supported by the United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS), and other organizations such as HALO Trust and AAR. Current estimates project Afghanistan to be mine-free by 2025.
While at the event, H.E. Ambassador Dr. Mohabbat had the pleasure of meeting with the Hon. Mr. James Cowan, Chief Executive of HALO Trust, and the Hon. Ms. Yukie Osa, President of the NPO Association for Aid and Relief Japan (AAR), to whom he expressed profound thanks and appreciation on behalf of the people and Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan for the many projects and efforts enacted by their respective organization in helping to protect the Afghan people from the dangers of landmines. Additionally, he had the pleasure of meeting with others of Their Excellencies the Ambassadors, Diplomats with missions in Japan, and high ranking members of several Governments present in honor of the reception’s noble event.
