September 29, 2018: It was a pleasure for H.E. Ambassador Dr. Bashir Mohabbat to attend Global Festa Japan 2018, hosted by Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan (MOFA), Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Japan NGO Center for International Cooperation (JANIC) at the Odaiba Center Promenade in Tokyo.

This festival is held annually to explain and display for Japanese and international citizens of all ages about the international cooperation activities carried out by Japan’s government and NGOs, in order to gain more public understanding and support of the necessity for the global development. At the event, the embassy’s Public Relations Office hosted a cultural booth in order to introduce Afghan culture and Afghan products for purchase to those who visited the booth.

In the opening ceremony, H.E. Mr. Iwao Horii , Parliamentary Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs, gave remarks regarding the importance of Japan being an active participant in the development process of many nationals across the globe in order to develop human capacity and forge peace. H.E. Mr. Hiroshi Taniyama, President of JANIC; and Hon. Mr. Kozo Honsei, in charge of Development Partnerships for JICA, also gave remarks in the opening ceremony. Following the opening ceremony, H.E. Dr. Mohabbat had had the honor of meeting with H.E. Mr. Iwao Horii. On behalf of the people and Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, H.E. Dr. Mohabbat thanked the people and Government of the friendly and noble nation of Japan for their steadfast and benevolent support of Afghanistan over the years as it has strives for development, peace, and prosperity. Further, he thanked H.E. Mr. Horii and the other hosts of the event for bringing such a successful event to the Japanese people and allowing the embassy to partake in the event. In return, H.E. Mr. Horii thanked H.E. Dr. Mohabbat for his kind words and noted that Japan would continue to stand by Afghanistan well into the future.

Despite the rainy day, the event was attended by more than 250 institutions, including Embassies and NGOs, who contributed to the promotion of international cooperation, for more than 50,000 visitors. There were over 1500 guests visiting the Afghanistan booth to learn about the many diverse culture aspects of Afghanistan, hear of the progress and development made over the recent years, and even purchase Afghan items such as lapis lazuli goods, afghan saffron, henna tattoos, and the afghan fusion saffron lemonade. All of the guests were excited to learn more about Afghanistan, sample Afghan saffron, and were very eager to take home items from Afghanistan.

While at the event, H.E. Dr. Mohabbat also had the pleasure of meeting with H.E. Mr. Mitsuji Suzuka, Ambassador of Japan to Afghanistan, as he visited the Afghan booth, to whom expressed sincerest thanks and appreciation on behalf of the people and Government of Japan for their continuous support over the years on the path to peace and prosperity. He also had the pleasure of meeting with several of Their Excellencies the Ambassadors, diplomats with missions in japan, members of Japanese government, and other distinguished guests with whom he was able to discuss this most successful event.

H.E. Ambassador Dr. Mohabbat warmly welcomed H.E. Ambassador Mr. Al-Emadi to the Embassy. H.E. Mr. Al-Emadi thanked H.E. Dr. Mohabbat for finding time in his busy schedule to receive his courtesy call, and for his warm welcome. On behalf of the people and Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, H.E. Dr. Mohabbat offered congratulations on H.E. Mr. Al-Emadi’s appointment as new Qatari Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Japan and wished him all the best of success during his mission. Moreover he thanked H.E. Mr. Al-Emadi for the support and friendship Qatar has given to the people and Government of Afghanistan as its strived for peace and prosperity.

H.E. Mr. Al-Emadi expressed his appreciation for H.E. Dr. Mohabbat’s kind words as well as his sincerest wishes for their relations and that of their two countries, Afghanistan and Qatar, to grow and deepen within his tenure and beyond. H.E. Dr. Mohabbat also expressed his wishes for continuous relations both between their respective nations as well as among their embassies. All present enjoyed the very amicable meeting and discussed recent endeavors for securing regional peace.

September 28, 2018: It was a pleasure for H.E. Ambassador Dr. Bashir Mohabbat to receive Mr. Afridun Amu, Afghanistan’s first professional surfer, at the embassy for a lunch and meeting in honor of his trip to Japan for the 2018 UR ISA World Surfing Games competition.

Mr. Amu was received at the embassy by Mr. Rahim Azimi, First Secretary, and Mr. Asif Agah, Second Secretary who gave him a tour of the embassy’s Rumi Balkhi Hall. Following this, the gentlemen enjoyed a friendly lunch of Afghan dishes made in honor of his visit where they were able to discuss Mr. Amu’s competitive endeavors in the sport of surfing as well as his experiences in Japan.

Mr. Afridun Amu is the first Afghan athlete to internationally represent Afghanistan in surfing. Even though Afghanistan is a landlocked country, surfing has become popular among Afghans. Mr. Amu is the president and one of the founders of the Wave Riders Association of Afghanistan (WRAA). Recently they have use the Panjshir River to promote surfing in Afghanistan.

After lunch and a further tour of the embassy grounds, H.E. Dr. Mohabbat invited Mr. Amu into the Ambassador’s Office for a pleasant meeting and discussion. Mr. Amu thanked H.E. Dr. Mohabbat, the diplomats, and staff for their kind hospitality and gifted the Embassy a banner of the World Surfing Games. H.E. Dr. Mohabbat expressed his gratitude for the kind gift, his wishes for the continued success of Mr. Amu, and assured him that all Afghanistan was proud of his efforts and supporting him.

September 27, 2017: His Excellency Dr. Basir Mohabbat, Ambassador at the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in Japan, had the pleasure of attending the reception on the occasion of the 40th Anniversary of China-Japan Friendship Agreement, at the Hotel New Otani.

On behalf of the people and the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, H.E. Ambassador Dr. Mohabbat congratulated His Excellency Ambassador Mr. Cheng Yonghua on the occasion. Further he expressed the appreciation for China’s cooperation in the redevelopment of Afghanistan as well as his wishes for the wellbeing of the people and Government of China, their neighboring country. In return, H.E. Ambassador Mr. Cheng expressed his thanks for H.E. Dr. Mohabbat’s attendance and kind words. Moreover, H.E. Mr. Cheng added his wishes for the people and Government of Afghanistan as well as for the maintenance of amicable ties between their respective countries and embassies.

September 27, 2018: It was an honor for His Excellency Ambassador Dr. Bashir Mohabbat to host a lunch meeting for H.E. Ambassador Mistuji Suzuka, Ambassador of Japan to Afghanistan, in Tokyo.

H.E. Dr. Bashir Mohabbat expressed his gratitude to H.E. Ambassador Mr. Suzuka for making time in his schedule to meet and share lunch together. In return, H.E. Mr. Suzuka expressed appreciation for the invitation to meet again and discuss topics of importance to both of their respective missions. Further, and on behalf of the people and Government of Afghanistan, H.E. Dr. Mohabbat expressed appreciation for the steadfast and benevolent support and assistance of the noble nation of Japan which has stood by Afghanistan throughout the rebuilding process as it strives for further peace and prosperity. He also asked that Japan continue to standby Afghanistan and help it to further develop self-sustainability and opportunities for improving Afghan business and the economy. In return, H.E. General Abdullah Hazim Stanekzai, the Chief of Border Police for the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan’s Ministry of the Interior, at the Ambassador’s residence at the embassy. Also in attendance were Col. Abdul Rauf Karimi, Chief of Administration for the Afghanistan Border Police, as well as Mr. Basir Ahmad Hamdard, First Secretary, and Dr. Rahim Azimi, First Secretary, both of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in Japan.

Alhaj. Brig. General Stanekzai was here in Japan for an official visit through the auspices of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan. He first thanked H.E. Dr. Mohabbat for the invitation and expressed his sincere appreciation towards the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Tokyo. Alhaj. Brig. General Stanekzai briefed H.E. Dr. Mohabbat about his excellent treatment on his trip here at the hosting of the Japanese government and Japan MOFA and was thankful to them for his very fruitful trip to Japan. In return, H.E. Dr. Mohabbat thanked him for his thoughtful words and expressed his great joy in hosting the occasion of Alhaj. Brig. General Stanekzai’s visit. They mutually agreed to strengthen closer relations between Afghanistan and Japan and further discussed topics of mutual interest and the dinner was held under a very amicable atmosphere.

Ambassador Dr. Bashir Mohabbat had the pleasure of hosting a luncheon meeting at the embassy for several representatives from various entertainment and media related sources in Japan such as Fuji TV, TBS TV, NHK, TV Asahi, Nihon TV, Star Three Corporation, Shotstri Corporation, and Action Corporation. Also in attendance were all of the diplomats and staff of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in Japan.

In his greeting remarks to the guests, H.E. Ambassador Dr. Mohabbat expressed his sincerest thanks to all of those in attendance and remarked on the gratefulness for such a unique opportunity in reaching out to the media and welcoming them into them Embassy as guests where they appreciate firsthand the good feeling of Afghan hospitality, culture and cuisine in a warm setting. H.E. Dr. Mohabbat added his wishes for continued good relations and collaborations among those present to continue to show the warm side of Afghanistan’s rich culture and history to Japanese audiences well into the future. Moreover, he reiterated his sincerest and most heartfelt thanks on behalf of the people and Government of Afghanistan, to the people and Government of Japan for their benevolent assistance, tireless support, and interest in establishing peace and prosperity for Afghanistan.

Following the meeting, he invited the guests to partake in the Afghan dishes prepared in honor of the visit by the embassy. At the conclusion of lunch, the guests were given a grand tour of the embassy grounds. All of those in attendance met in a very amicable environment and were able to discuss various topics that could potentially serve to help bridge the gap in understanding of Afghanistan’s culture to a Japanese audience. Moreover, the Media and Entertainment representatives expressed their appreciation for the attention given to them along with the new things learned about Afghanistan and thus promised to bring the many positive sides of Afghanistan's history, culture, and progress -often overlooked- into more prominent coverage for Japanese audiences in the future.

On behalf of the people and Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, H.E. Ambassador Dr. Mohabbat extended his congratulations for the auspicious milestone event and stupendous concert to H.E. Mr. Arifin Tasrif, Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Japan. As Indonesia has continued to express commitment to support and assist the rebuilding Afghanistan in various sectors, including technical training infrastructure, women’s empowerment, higher education, and diplomat training, H.E. Dr. Mohabbat conveyed his hope for the continued welfare of the Indonesian people, peace and prosperity of the Republic, and his desire to foster stronger relations between the two great nations. H.E. Ambassador Dr. Mohabbat took the opportunity to extend his deepest gratitude, on behalf of the people and Government of the Islamic Republic Afghanistan, to the Kingdom and H.M., through Mr. Mohammed Fuad N. Justaniah, to wish sincerest congratulations on this most auspicious day. As Saudi Arabia has lent generous and significant support as well as regional cooperation to Afghanistan in the peace process over the years, and serves as a beacon for the Islamic world holding custodianship of the Two Holy Mosques, H.E. Dr. Mohabbat further conveyed his hope that the Kingdom would see another year of peace and prosperity, his wishes for the welfare of the people of the country, and his desire that the two nations would continue grow closer. In return, Mr. Justaniah thanked H.E. Dr. Mohabbat for his words and attendance at their National Day celebration in addition to his hopes for continued national cooperation.

September 23, 2018: It was a pleasure for H.E. Ambassador Dr. Bashir Mohabbat to attend a commemorative reception in honor of International Sign Language Day at the YouTube Space Tokyo in Roppongi. Also in Attendance was Mr. Asif Agah, Second Secretary for the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in Japan.
As of a decision made by the UN in 2017, International Day of Sign Languages (IDSL) is celebrated annually across the world on 23 September every year along with International Week of the Deaf. The choice of 23 September is the same date that the World Federation of the Deaf was established. It is a step further in the UN’s promise “to leave no one behind” and according the WFD website, is “a global movement of deaf unity and concerted advocacy to raise awareness of the issues deaf people face in their everyday lives. The WFD strongly believes that the present United Nations resolution is a valuable extension of this tradition and has the potential to increase the understanding of United Nations member states, the private sector and the United Nations’ system in closing existing gaps in the achievement of human rights for deaf people.”
While at the event, H.E. Ambassador Dr. Mohabbat had the pleasure of meeting with H.E. Mr. Manabu Horii, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs Japan, as well as several of Their Excellencies the Ambassadors, diplomats with missions in Japan, and other distinguished guests who all came together to celebrate this special day and bring awareness to the International Day of Sign Languages.

September 23, 2018: It was a pleasure for H.E. Ambassador Dr. Bashir Mohabbat to attend the 29th Mitaka International Festival – “Mishop World 2018” at Inokashira Park in Mitaka City.

At the annual festival, one of the largest international festivals in the area, the embassy’s Public Relations Office hosted a cultural and food booth in order to introduce Afghan culture and cuisine to those who visited the booth. Prior to the opening of the festival, H.E. Ambassador Dr. Mohabbat was greeted by Hon. Mr. Toshiaki Ito, City Council Member of Mitaka City; who escorted him onto the festival site and introduced to Hon. Ms. Keiko Kiyohara, Mayor of Mitaka City.

In the opening ceremony, Mayor Kiyohara invited H.E. Dr. Mohabbat onto the mainstage to give remarks on the festival. On behalf of the people and Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, H.E. Dr. Mohabbat thanked the people and Government of the friendly and noble nation of Japan for their steadfast and benevolent support of Afghanistan over the years as it has strived for development, peace, and prosperity. Further he thanked all those present at the festival and invited them to visit the Embassy’s culture and food booth to taste delicious mantu, try Afghanistan’s award winning saffron, to decorate with henna designing, and to see the wonderful jewelry made of Afghanistan’s national stone Lapis Lazuli. At that time he presented Mayor Kiyohara with a gift made of Lapis Lazuli.

The festival hosted over 10,000 guests in total with well over 1000 guests visiting the Afghanistan booth to try Afghan cuisine, learn about the many diverse culture aspects of Afghanistan, hear of the progress and development made over the recent years, and even purchase Afghan items from local Afghan vendors. All of the guests marveled at the delicious mantu made by the embassy and were very eager to take home items from Afghanistan. While at the event, H.E. Dr. Mohabbat also had the pleasure of meeting with several members of the local government to whom he expressed his sincere gratitude for inviting the embassy to host a booth and congratulations for a most successful event.

September 21, 2018: The Honorable First Secretary Dr. Rahim Azimi welcomed His Excellency Principal Deputy Director Mr. Yu Teraoka and Honourable Assistant Director Mr. Tsuyoshi Odahara of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry’s Middle East & Africa Division to the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan. Dr. Azimi expressed deepest gratitude on behalf of the people and the Government for Japan’s tremendous support and assistance in developing business relations among Afghan and Japanese companies, and furthermore, for their continuous support with the reconstruction of Afghanistan.

Ms. Prativa Rana, Ambassador of Nepal in Japan, for the invitation to the reception and, on behalf of the people and Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, expressed heartfelt congratulations on their most auspicious National Day and conveyed his hopes for continued good relations between Afghanistan and Nepal. September 20, 2018: With much respect and on the occasion of Ashura, H.E. Ambassador Dr. Bashir Mohabbat made a visit to the Afghanistan Culture Association (Afghanistan Bunka Kyokai) in Chiba Prefecture’s town of Yotsukaido. Also in Attendance were Mr. Basir Ahmad Hamdard, First Secretary, and Dr. Rahim Azimi, First Secretary, for the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in Japan.
While at the Afghanistan Culture Association’s site in Chiba, H.E. Ambassador Dr. Mohabbat gave his remarks to all those present wherein he extended his greetings to the association members and thanked them for asking him to speak on the occasion. Further, he expressed condolences to the audience as well as to all Muslims around the world, and for those who were martyred at Holy Karbala. He thanked the organizers for providing a event such as this for sharing the traditions and culture of Afghanistan and to express solemn respect on occasions such as this. Additionally he spoke on the significance of the occasion of Ashura, the Ashura movement in society, and mentioned that the tragedy of Ashura goes past just the historical incident but out through the Islamic world - that there are things to be learned still from Ashura such as the importance in acknowledging those striving for freedom & being sacrificed in the promotion of Islam; and the fight against cruelty and oppression must continue. H.E. Dr. Mohabbat concluded by encouraging all present to continue to serve as a bridges for goodwill between all Muslims, the Afghan community and the residents of Japan, and again thanked the organizers for their hospitality.

September 19, 2018: It was an honor for H.E. Ambassador Dr. Bashir Mohabbat to receive H.E. Mr. Samir Mohamed Hamud Khamis, Ambassador of the Republic of Yemen in Japan, for a meeting at the Afghan Embassy in Tokyo. Also in attendance was Mr. Basir Ahmad Hamdard, First Secretary for the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in Japan.
H.E. Ambassador Dr. Mohabbat welcomed H.E. Ambassador Mr. Khamis to the embassy and expressed his pleasure at having the opportunity to meet. Further H.E. Dr. Mohabbat expressed his hopes for a strengthening of good relations between both Afghanistan and Yemen, as well as between their respective embassies. In return, H.E. Mr. Khamis thanked H.E. Dr. Mohabbat for meeting with him today as well as for his kind words. He assured him that Yemen would continue to stand by Afghanistan to ensure further progress and prosperity for their respective countries, as well as work together with them and the international community to help further global peace. Both of Their Excellencies the Ambassadors further discussed topic regarding human rights concerning the people of both their countries and agreed to work together in the future to strengthen their bilateral ties.

Mr. Yuji Mori, Executive Director of the Nippon Foundation at the Nippon Foundation Building in Tokyo. Also in attendance was Mr. Asif Agah, Second Secretary for the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in Japan and Mr. Makoto Wada, Program Director for the Social Innovation Program’s International Project Team of the Nippon Foundation.
Established in 1962, The Nippon Foundation is a globally active, nonprofit philanthropic organization that has a mission of providing social innovation – to give all humanity the chance to participate in the future. “Through this innovation we aim to achieve a society where all people support one another, reducing the burdens and challenges they face together.”

H.E. Ambassador Dr. Mohabbat thanked Hon. Mr. Mori for making the time to meet with him and thanked him, on behalf of the people and Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, for the steadfast and benevolent support of the noble nation of Japan over the years while in pursuit of progress, peace, and prosperity. In return, Hon. Mr. Mori thanked H.E. Dr. Mohabbat for meeting with him as well as for his kind words. Further, H.E. Dr. Mohabbat expressed his strong wishes that the Nippon Foundation provide more scholarship opportunities to Afghan students at the Master's level in order to increase the human capacity development and promulgate more self-sustainability and hope for the future of Afghanistan. As education is the foundation on which the future will be built, offering scholarships for promising young Afghan minds to come study in Japan through the Foundation, when brought to fruition, can help to further improve the lives and contributions of the Afghan people. Mr. Mori agreed to endeavor to explore options to bring about more scholarship opportunities to help enhance human capacity development and progress towards peace and prosperity for Afghanistan.

September 18, 2018: It was a pleasure for H.E. Ambassador Dr. Bashir Mohabbat to receive a visit by Ms. Junko Katano from NHK’s culture center, at the embassy in Tokyo.

H.E. Ambassador Dr. Mohabbat warmly welcomed Ms. Katano into the Ambassador’s office for a meeting. Ms. Katano expressed her gratitude to H.E. Dr. Mohabbat for making the time in his schedule to receive her and for the warm welcome. In return, H.E. Dr. Mohabbat thanked Ms. Katano for her kind words and expressed his sincere gratitude, on behalf of the people and Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, for the continuous benevolent support by the true friendly nation of Japan over the years. Further he thanked NHK for covering the news and culture stories of Afghanistan over the many years in its programs. Their meeting continued discussions on a proposed a joint-collaborative event between NHK and the embassy, tentatively planned next year.

Additionally, H.E. Dr. Mohabbat expressed his sincerest hopes for positive relations and collaborations between Afghanistan and the media in order to open the frame to include the great progress and positive strides that have been occurring, especially since the formation of the National Unity Government, in Afghanistan. In the very amicable environment, H.E. Dr. Mohabbat and Ms. Katano were able to discuss various topics that could potentially serve to help bridge the gap in understanding of Afghanistan’s culture to a Japanese audience.

September 15, 2017: It was a pleasure for H.E. Ambassador Dr. Bashir Mohabbat to attend the “Networking Event” reception celebration by Alumni of Chukyo University at the Shinagawa Prince Hotel in Tokyo.

As an alumnus of Chukyo University, H.E. Ambassador Dr. Mohabbat was again invited to the reception. The university, established 64 years ago, initially had only one department – Commerce. But currently has 11 undergraduate departments and 11 graduate level research courses, including professional schools of law and business. H.E. Dr. Mohabbat had the pleasure to meet with Dr. Kiyohide Umemura, Chancellor Chairman of Chukyo University to whom he extended his thanks to for hosting the successful event. He thanked the event planner for his kind and very thorough welcoming and the care he received when he was student at Chukyo as the first foreign student of the university. Moreover, he intimated just how proud he was of the invaluable education he received for the institution that holds so dear a place in his heart, which through their all-encompassing, high-caliber training he is certain it helped to bring him to where he is in life. In return, Dr. Uemura thanked him for his attendance and for giving his kind words, further remarking how proud they were of H.E. Dr. Mohabbat as the university’s first Ambassador Alumnus. While at the event, H.E. Dr. Mohabbat also had the pleasure of speaking with many of his fellow alumni of the university who were in attendance to network with former classmates at the event.
