March 29, 2017: His Excellency Ambassador Dr. Sayed Mohammad Amin Fatimie had a phone call with the Afghan National Women’s Football Team in Hiroshima with United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR). HE. Ambassador Dr Fatimie expressed his thanks to the generosity and hospitality of the Japanese in Hiroshima and Honourable Governor Hedehiko Yuzaki-san. H.E. Dr. Fatimie also expressed his appreciation to UNITAR for being a steadfast partner in supporting the young democracy in Afghanistan for organising this peace football match between Afghanistan and Hiroshima Women’s Team. Following this conversation, H.E. Dr. Fatimie wished the teams a great friendly match and the best of luck for the match.

Amin Fatimie had the honor of visiting the Residence of German Ambassador to attend the opening exhibition “Impressions of the Residence Garden – Photographs by David A. Kunin”. It was a meaningful exhibition for H.E. Ambassador Dr. Fatimie as the photographs in the exhibition deeply touched various aspects of beauty in Residence Garden. H.E. Ambassador Dr. Fatimie appreciated H.E. Ambassador Dr. Hans Carl von Werthen, for inviting him to a wonderful evening and he had discussed how to pursue the ideal peace that are also shown through the exhibition.

March 24, 2017: It was a pleasure for Mr. Agah, Second Secretary and Cultural Affairs Officer of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, and Ms. Allyson Diaz, Public Relation Officer, and interns Ms. Carolinne Hanaoka, Ms. Erina Kondo, Ms. Fukiko Inoue, Mr. Kang Hyun Na, Ms. Lina Kadzamira , and Ms. Mayuko Kawai to attend the photo exhibit opening of the Hon. Ms. Keiko Nishigaki at America Bashi Gallery in Ebisu, Tokyo.

Ms. Nishigaki was the president and founder of the recently retired organization Takarazuka Afghanistan Friendship Association, begun in her hometown of Takarazuka, a city in the western Japan prefecture of Hyogo. Now 81 years old, she spent several years and several trips in Afghanistan. Over the years, through her own hard work and effort, she has helped to make improvements in the life of the Afghan people. She truly is a friend to Afghanistan.

Beginning in 1993, she noticed a need for infant and mother care in refugee camps so she set up an NGO, the Takarazuka Afghanistan Friendship Association, to collect donations. In 1994, she visited a refugee camp in Jalalabad and began even more work to assist women and children through health and education. Defying a Taliban prohibition on female education, she ran secret classes for girls at 20 or so locations, such as the backyard of private homes, and was even brought in to face a Taliban Judge about the matter.

All of the wonderful photos displayed were taken by Ms. Nishigaki herself. She wanted to share with people the views of Afghanistan as she experienced them during her time doing relief work. Also on dispay were several craft items she had been given or acquired during her many trips to Afghanistan. Mr. Agah expressed his thank to the Hon. Ms. Nishigaki on behalf of the people of Afghanistan and wished her the best for her exhibition.

24 March 2017: the First Secretary of Political Affairs Mr. Basir Ahmad Hamdard attended the 61st Anniversary of Independence and National day of the Republic of Tunisia. The reception was held at Hotel Okura, Ascot Hall in Toranomon Minato-ku Tokyo.

At the reception, Mr. Hamdard congratulation His Excellency Mr. Kaies Darraji Ambassador of Republic of Tunisia and Minister Plenipotentiary Deputy Chief of Mission Mr. Naceur Ouni of Tunisia on their national day. Mr. Hamdard also expressed his deep condolences to His Excellency Khaled Alameri Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates for the loss of the five diplomates in Kandahar, Afghanistan committed Taliban and Haqqani, stressing that terrorism is a global threat that affects us all.
Mr. Hamdard also had an important conversation with Marta Cali, Training Consultant from the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), where Mr. Hamdard explain about the situation in Afghanistan and stressed the importance of the UN’s work for peace and collaboration with neighbor country Pakistan to combat terrorism. The only peace solution for Afghanistan is to stop the supporting of terrorism and extremism in neighboring countries, fail to do so is going to cause unrest on a global scale.

March 24, 2017: It was an honor for H.E. Ambassador Dr. Sayed Mohammad Amin Fatimie to attend the very grand and well organized graduation ceremony of Tokai University Graduate School’s Shonan Campus. H.E. Ambassador Dr. Fatimie was among the chief guests at the momentous occasion.

Among the graduates, there were 11 Afghan students completing their studies at the university. These graduating scholars are not only the leaders of today in Afghanistan but will also be and prepare the leaders of tomorrow. As Afghanistan has progressed further in development over the past 15 years, the correlating linkage between the importance of education and the livelihoods and economic development of its citizens has become obvious. The pen is much mightier than the sword. Education is the foundation on which our state building has been crafted. The development of human capacity is one of Afghanistan’s greatest resources.

H.E. Ambassador Dr. Fatimie thanked the leaders of the University for facilitating the education and enriching of the Afghan scholars while in Japan and at Tokai University. He also congratulated the graduates on their great and significant accomplishment and wished them the best of luck in all their future endeavors as well as safe returns back to Afghanistan. H.E. Dr. Fatimie also had the pleasure of meeting with the families of the graduates to congratulate them on the auspicious occasion.

March 24, 2017: Mr. Atsushi Masuda, Marketing Executive, Global Business Operation and Mr. Ashok Kamra, Marketing Executive, Global Business Operation from Toshiba Corporation Energy Systems & Solutions Company met with the Minister Counsellor Dr. Bashir Mohabbat, the First Secretary of Political Affairs Mr. Basir Ahmad Hamdard and Ms. Namie Imanishi at the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan. Mr. Hamdard set up the meeting when he attended at the Deployment of Innovative Energy Technologies and Solutions Workshop and Field Visit in Tokyo.

During the meeting, they discussed Toshiba’s current involvement in global projects, which entails advanced technologies and services to generate, transmit and store clean energy all around the world. Toshiba has three mega factories in India, of which their transformer factory is regarded the biggest in the world, manufacturing 900 to 1,000 transformers per day and exporting to 60 countries.
 In Afghanistan, the area of interest is to supply water in remote parts of the country. Toshiba has already an autonomous energy supply system called “H2One”, which could be deployed in Afghanistan.  H2One is a hydrogen power generator, which will ensure 24-hour hot water, and electricity. The system can be easily multiplied and set up according to different needs. This system was adopted in Fukushima Prefecture after the 2011 Tohoku Earthquake to accommodate electricity and water supply during the process of recovery in the region. The standard size of the “H2One” system is 60kW, a capacity of three of them (180kW) would be able to accommodate 200~300 people with electricity.  The cost of each one of them would be about $2.5 million.

They also talked about the possibility of direct and/or indirect investment from Japan or collaboration project between Japan and India to Afghanistan. Mr. Masuda and Mr. Kamra promised to work closely with Afghanistan and to return to the embassy for future meetings. Mr. Hamdard also promise to send the softcopy of all the plan energy foreign direct investment documents received by his Excellency Mr. Amanullah Ghalib Deputy Minister of Energy in Afghanistan.

Ambassador Dr. Fatimie expressed, on behalf of the people and the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, sincere appreciation to the Women’s Federation for World Peace Japan for the efforts to raise attention on the world peace.H.E. Dr. Fatimie discussed with members of the Women’s Federation for World Peace regarding the current issue of methods to raise education rates for children in Africa, as the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan also had a period of low education rate for women. H.E. Dr. Fatimie concluded that he has bright hopes for more children and women around the world receiving education for the sake of the world peace.

January 13 - March 20, 2017: The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in Tokyo received about 1000 guests for the Minato-ku World Carnival Stamp Rally. The Stamp Rally was covered by the NHK, TV Asahi and Yomiuri Shimbun.

This year's run differed from previous years as Ms. Allyson Diaz, Public Relations Officer for the Embassy of Afghanistan in Japan, sought the chance to reach out to the community and have them learn more about Afghanistan on their visit. On Mondays and Wednesdays the visitors were given guided tours of the Embassy while on Fridays, the visitors were given an informative and entertaining presentation about Afghanistan and a guided tour of the embassy by Mr. Ashraf Baburi, Administrative & Accounting Affairs Officer for the Embassy. During the presentation, the guests were also provided with refreshments from Afghanistan giving them a taste of Afghanistan’s food culture. Succeeding the presentation, there was a short question and answer section where all the visitors’ questions regarding Afghanistan, the history of the country, relations between Japan and Afghanistan as well as the differences and similarities between the two cultures were answered.

The purpose of the guided tours and presentations was to allow the visitors to learn more about Afghanistan and be familiarized with the country since travelling remain currently difficult. The Public Relations & Cultural Affairs Office hoped that by coming to the Embassy and receiving the hospitality, the visitors would feel like they have been to Afghanistan. Guests enjoyed learning about Afghanistan and Afghan-Japan relations while touring the Embassy and viewing places such as the Rumi Balkhi reception hall as well as the Embassy rooftop.

Ambassador Dr. Sayed Mohammad Amin Fatimie and Mr. Basir Hamdard, First Secretary and Political Affairs for the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in Japan, to receive at the embassy and meet with Mr. Naoki Sakai, Senior Climate Change Specialist in the Energy Division for the South Asia Department of Asian Development Bank.

Mr. Sakai is Asian Development Bank's (ADB's) professional staff for developing lending program for solar energy and smart grid development in India and other developing member countries. He is actively involved in coordinating with private technology providers to design knowledge-matching program for disaster resilient infrastructure development. He also conducts consultations with government officials and member countries for supporting the development and delivery of programs, processes and services especially in the energy, transport, and urban sectors. ADB itself has made one of their goals to forge partnerships between developing countries, ADB, ADB Members, and technology providers on particular ADB projects likely to benefit from their innovations with regard to energy and sustainable development.
