Attendance at the Global Festa Japan 2019 Festival


September 28 & 29, 2019: It was a pleasure for H.E. Ambassador Dr. Bashir Mohabbat to attend Global Festa Japan 2019, hosted by Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan (MOFA), Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Japan NGO Center for International Cooperation (JANIC) at the Odaiba Center Promenade in Tokyo. Also in attendance were Mr. Naqshband Haya, First Secretary, and Mr. Abdul Hameed Hashimi, Third Secretary, both of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in Japan.

This festival is held annually to explain and display for Japanese and international citizens of all ages about the international cooperation activities carried out by Japan’s government and NGOs, in order to gain more public understanding and support of the necessity for the global development. At the event, the embassy’s Public Relations Office hosted a cultural and food booth in honor of the 100th Anniversary of the Restoration of Independence of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in order to introduce Afghan culture, Afghan goods, and Afghan fusion flavors in Afghan Saffron Lemonade and Afghan Saffron Popcorn to those who visited the booth.
On behalf of the people and Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, H.E. Dr. Mohabbat thanked the people and Government of the friendly and noble nation of Japan through the hosts of the event for their steadfast and benevolent support of Afghanistan over the years as it has striven for progress, prosperity, and peace. Further, he thanked them for bringing such a successful event to the Japanese people and allowing the embassy to partake in the event. In return, they thanked H.E. Dr. Mohabbat for his kind words.
The event was participated in by more than 250 institutions, including Embassies and NGOs, who contributed to the promotion of international cooperation, for the more than 50,000 visitors across the weekend long festival. There were over 1500 guests visiting the Afghanistan booth each day to learn about the many diverse culture aspects of Afghanistan, inquire about its Centennial of Independence, hear of the progress and development made over the recent years, and even purchase Afghan items such as lapis lazuli goods, Afghan saffron, Afghan dried fruits & nuts, and the Afghan fusion Saffron Lemonade And Saffron Popcorn from local Afghan business owners. All of the guests were excited to learn more about Afghanistan, sample Afghan flavors, and were very eager to take home items from Afghanistan.
While at the event, H.E. Dr. Mohabbat also had the pleasure of meeting with several of Their Excellencies the Ambassadors, diplomats with missions in Japan, members of Japanese government, and other distinguished guests with whom he was able to discuss this most successful event.

September 26, 2019: His Excellency Ambassador Dr. Bashir Mohabbat had the pleasure and honor of attending a reception to celebrate the 89th National Day of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia hosted by H.E. Ambassador Mr. Nayef Mrzouq Al-Fahadi.
H.E. Ambassador Dr. Mohabbat took the opportunity to extend his deepest gratitude, on behalf of the people and Government of the Islamic Republic Afghanistan, to the Kingdom and H.M., through H.E. Ambassador Mr. Al-Fahadi, to wish sincerest congratulations on this most auspicious day. As Saudi Arabia has lent generous and significant support as well as regional cooperation to Afghanistan in the peace process over the years, and serves as a beacon for the Islamic world holding custodianship of the Two Holy Mosques, H.E. Dr. Mohabbat further conveyed his hope that the Kingdom would see another year of peace and prosperity, his wishes for the welfare of the people of the country, and his desire that the two nations would continue grow closer. In return, H.E. Mr. Al-Fahadi thanked H.E. Dr. Mohabbat for his words and attendance at their National Day celebration in addition to his hopes for continued national cooperation.
At the reception, H.E. Dr. Mohabbat also had the opportunity to meet with several others of Their Excellencies the Ambassadors, members of diplomatic missions stationed in Japan, high ranking Japanese officials, and other distinguished guests all of who were in attendance in honor of the auspicious occasion.

September 25, 2019: It was an honor and a pleasure for H.E. Ambassador Dr. Bashir Mohabbat to allow the Asiatic Society of Japan, Inc. to host their General Meeting as well as a special lecture by Her Imperial Highness Princess Takamado, at the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in Tokyo, Japan. Also in attendance to welcome the honorable guests to the Embassy were the diplomats and staff.

On behalf of the people and Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, H.E. Ambassador Dr. Mohabbat received and welcomed Her Imperial Highness Princess Takamado to the Embassy, invited her to enjoy her evening, and intimated how much everyone was anticipating her informative lecture. Further, Dr. Mohabbat thanked the people and Government of Japan for their steadfast and benevolent support of Afghanistan over the years on its quest for progress, prosperity, and peace. As H.E. Dr. Mohabbat is also a Board Member of the ASJ, in his opening remarks to the over 100 guests prior to Her Imperial Highness’s lecture, he not only welcomed all the members of the organization but congratulated them on the recent incorporation of the organization; wishing them many fruitful successes in the future.

After the remarks by H.E. Dr. Mohabbat, Her Imperial Highness Princess Takamado gave her informative and nuanced lecture for the enjoyment of the guests. Following the lecture, H.E. Dr. Mohabbat had the pleasure of introducing Her Imperial Highness Princess Takamado to the historical photo exhibit on display at the embassy chronicling the 100th Anniversary of the Restoration of Independence; from the early start by His Royal Highness King Ghazi Amanullah Khan and through to the current leaders of the National Unity Government, H.E. President Dr. Mohammad Ashraf Ghani and H.E. Chief Executive Dr. Abdullah Abdullah.

Following the major lecture festivities, all of the guests were invited to partake in traditional Afghan cuisine dishes specially prepared in honor of the occasion for the evening. All of those present had an enjoyable time and remarked on how wonderful it was for the Embassy to provide this opportunity for the organization to have their meeting and lecture within its halls, as well as just how wonderful the Afghan hospitality and cuisine were to experience.

September 24, 2019: It was a pleasure for H.E. Ambassador Dr. Bashir Mohabbat to attend the celebration of the 28th Anniversary of the National Day of the Republic of Armenia at the Hotel Okura in Tokyo.
H.E. Ambassador Dr. Mohabbat expressed his congratulations, on behalf of the people and the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, to H.E. Mr. Grant R. Pogosyan, Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia to Japan, in honor of this most auspicious occasion. In return, H.E. Ambassador Mr. Pogosyan thanked H.E. Dr. Mohabbat for his kind word as well as for his attendance at the event. H.E. Dr. Mohabbat expressed his sincerest wishes for a deepening of relations between Afghanistan and Armenia as well as their respective embassies.

September 22, 2019: It was a pleasure for H.E. Ambassador Dr. Bashir Mohabbat to attend the 30th Mitaka International Festival – “Mishop World 2019” at Inokashira Park in Mitaka City.

At the annual festival, one of the largest international festivals in the western area of Tokyo, the embassy’s Public Relations Office hosted a cultural and food booth in honor of the 100th Anniversary of the Restoration of Independence of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in order to introduce Afghan culture, Afghan goods, and Afghan fusion flavors to those who visited the booth. Prior to the opening of the festival, H.E. Ambassador Dr. Mohabbat was welcomed by his good friend, Hon. Mr. Toshiaki Ito, City Council Member of Mitaka City, who introduced him to Hon. Mr. Takashi Kawamura , Mayor of Mitaka City. On behalf of the people and Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, H.E. Dr. Mohabbat thanked Mayor Kawamura and the wonderful people of Mitaka for putting on a festival such as this and allowing the Embassy a chance to showcase some of the wonderful aspects of Afghanistan’s culture.

In the opening ceremony, Mayor Kawamura invited H.E. Dr. Mohabbat onto the mainstage to give remarks on the festival. On behalf of the people and Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, H.E. Dr. Mohabbat thanked the people and Government of the friendly and noble nation of Japan, especially our close friends in Mitaka City, for their steadfast and benevolent support of Afghanistan over the years which has helped it to achieve it Centennial of Independence Milestone Anniversary this year. Further he thanked all those present at the festival for attending the international gathering and invited them to visit the Embassy’s booth to enjoy some of the refreshing Afghan Saffron Lemonade, taste some of Afghanistan’s incomparable dried fruits & nuts, and to see the wonderful jewelry made of Afghanistan’s many gemstones including the national stone Lapis Lazuli.

In the afternoon, the Embassy has side stage time to host an interactive “Quiz & Learn About Afghanistan” time with guests where participants had the chance to not only learn about Afghanistan but be rewarded with surprise bags of Afghan dried fruits and nuts. The festival hosted over 10,000 guests in total with well over 1000 guests visiting the Afghanistan booth to try the Afghan Saffron Lemonade, learn about the many diverse culture aspects of Afghanistan, hear of the progress and development made over the recent years, and even purchase Afghan items from local Afghan business owners. All of the guests marveled at the delicious lemonade made by the embassy – which was completely finished-off, and were very eager to take home items from Afghanistan. While at the event, H.E. Dr. Mohabbat also had the pleasure of meeting with several members of the local government to whom he expressed his sincere gratitude for inviting the embassy to host a booth and congratulations for a most successful event.

September 20, 2019: It was an honor for H.E. Ambassador Dr. Bashir Mohabbat to attend the celebration of the 28th Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Uzbekistan at Hotel New Otani in Tokyo.
On behalf of the people and the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, H.E. Ambassador Dr. Mohabbat expressed his sincerest congratulations to the people and Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan through H.E. Ambassador Mr. Gayrat Fazilov on the occasion and for the invitation. He further hailed the strong ties between Afghanistan and Uzbekistan, their recent collaborative endeavors, and expressing his hope that this friendship would further intensify the peace and prosperity of both countries and of the region.
While at the event, H.E. Dr. Mohabbat also had the pleasure of meeting with several others of Their Excellencies the Ambassadors, other Heads of Missions, Diplomats with missions in Japan, members of parliament, and other distinguished guests all of whom were present in honor of the auspicious occasion.

September 18, 2019: It was an honor for H.E. Ambassador Dr. Bashir Mohabbat to meet with his longtime friend, and longtime friend of Afghanistan, H.E. Mr. Katsuhiko Takahashi, Director-General and Assistant Minister for the Middle Eastern and African Affairs Bureau, as well as Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan of MOFA Japan at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Headquarters in Tokyo. Also in attendance was Mr. Nasrullah Rozbeh, Second Secretary for the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in Tokyo.

H.E. Dr. Mohabbat thanked H.E. Mr. Takahashi for making the time in his busy schedule to meet with him. On behalf of the people and Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, expressed wholehearted gratitude to the people and Government of the noble nation of Japan for their ongoing benevolent support of Afghanistan as it has striven over the years for progress, prosperity, and peace in an Afghan-owned and Afghan-led process. Additionally, H.E. Dr. Mohabbat updated him on the many developments in the peace process Afghanistan has undertaken recently in order to advance regional stability and global peace.

In return, H.E. Mr. Takahashi thanked H.E. Dr. Mohabbat for meeting with him as well as for his kind words. H.E. Mr. Takahashi was pleased with the progress being made in the Afghan-owned and Afghan-led peace process and reassured him that Japan values its strong and friendly bilateral tie with Afghanistan and as such would continue to stand with Afghanistan well into the future. All those present further discussed topics of mutual interest regarding peace, economics, and the Embassy’s upcoming reception celebrating 100th anniversary of the restoration of Afghanistan’s Independence on September 20th.

September 18, 2019: On behalf of the people and Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, H.E. Ambassador Dr. Bashir Mohabbat attended the Condolence Book signing commemorating the life of the His Late Excellency Prof. DR (HC). Ing. Dr. Sc. Mult. Bacharuddin Jusuf Habibie, the third President of the Republic of Indonesia, at the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Tokyo.
On behalf of the people and Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, H.E. Ambassador Dr. Mohabbat signed the condolence book in solidarity with the other missions in Japan, and to H.E. Mr. Arifin Tasrif he expressed sorrows for the passing of His late Excellency Former President Habibie, his loved ones, and the people of Indonesia; adding just how grateful the people of Afghanistan are for the steadfast and generous support of Indonesia over the years in human capacity development and infrastructural assistance.

September 18, 2019: H.E. Ambassador Dr. Bashir Mohabbat had the honor and pleasure of attending this year’s “The Ambassadors’ Breakfast” at the Grand Hyatt Tokyo.
This annual event is a special gathering for Ambassadors stationed in Tokyo, and this year’s special guest speaker was the Reverend Daiko Matsuyama, deputy head priest of Taizō-in temple, part of Kyoto’s Myōshinji temple complex associated with the Rinzai school of Zen Buddhism, who has given countless talks on finding inner peace.
Following Rev. Matsuyama speech, H.E. Dr. Mohabbat had the opportunity to meet with him and thanked him for his moving speech. While at the event, H.E. Ambassador Dr. Mohabbat also had the opportunity to meet with several others of Their Excellencies the Ambassadors of various foreign missions in Japan all present for the annual networking event.

September 13, 2019: It was an honor for H.E. Ambassador Dr. Bashir Mohabbat to be a guest lecturer at the Middle East Institute of Japan and give a presentation on the “Contemporary Afghanistan” at the Japan National Press Club in Tokyo.

Upon his arrival, H.E. Ambassador Dr. Mohabbat was greeted by Hon. Mr. Akitaka Saiki, President; and Mr. Kiyoshi Asako, Vice President, both of the Middle East Institute of Japan, to whom he expressed sincerest thanks and appreciation on behalf of the people and Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan for arranging this opportunity to allow the members to learn even more about the current state of contemporary Afghanistan. Over 60 guests were in attendance for H.E. Dr. Mohabbat’s ninety-minute lecture on contemporary Afghanistan enabling them the opportunity to hear of the new progress across various sectors and give them a chance to ask questions and receive answers first hand regarding many new developments from the government. Following the lecture , all present remarked how informative and eye-opening they found the presentation to be and very much looked forward to hearing more about Afghanistan in the future.

September 10, 2019: It was a pleasure for H.E. Ambassador Dr. Bashir Mohabbat to meet with the Hon. Mr. Ichiro Kanke, Parliamentary Vice Minister of the Environment at the Ministry of the Environment offices in Tokyo.
Hon. Mr. Kanke expressed his warm welcome to H.E. Ambassador Dr. Mohabbat and thanked him for arranging to meet. H.E. Dr. Mohabbat thanked Hon. Mr. Kanke for taking time out of his schedule to meet and expressed sincerest gratitude on behalf of the people and Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan for Japan’s great contribution in assisting with reconstruction and progressive development of Afghanistan. H.E. Dr. Mohabbat believes strongly that being mindful of the environmental concerns of Afghanistan based on its location and its vitality to the Agriculture industry are crucial to the livelihoods of the Afghan people and the future of Afghanistan. With the generous aid from Noble countries such as Japan, the Afghanistan hope to be able to not only address environmental concerns present, but also to fortify knowledge of those within the country dealing with these issues for self-sustainability as the business, trade, and infrastructure of the country improves to grow the nation. This sort of assistance Self-Sustainability Development and Infrastructure building with a mindfulness to the unique environment of Afghanistan, such as the generous nation of Japan has been doing, if allowed to continue, will symbiotically enhance both nations and build stronger times among them.
Further, H.E. Dr. Mohabbat thanked Hon. Mr. Kanke for Ministry of the Environment’s continuous support in the relations between Afghanistan and Japan, and asked for further assistance and guidance in helping Afghanistan to address environmental concerns. In return, Hon. Mr. Kanke thanked H.E. Dr. Mohabbat for his encouraging words, and assured him of his intentions to do his very best to assure that both nations prosperity and the continuation of strong relations will continue well into the future.

September 10, 2019: It was an honor for H.E. Ambassador Dr. Bashir Mohabbat to host a Martyrs Week Reception at the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in Tokyo. Also in attendance were Mr. Naqshband Haya, First Secretary; Mr. Nasrullah Rozbeh, Second Secretary; and all the staff of the embassy to greet the distinguished guests – Afghan citizens in Japan – for the event.

The emcee for the event, Mr. Rozbeh welcomed all of the guests to the embassy and invited a respected member from the Afghan community in Japan offer prayers following the readings from the holy Quran in honor of the austere occasion. In his opening remarks, H.E. Ambassador Dr. Mohabbat extended his welcome and discussed the significance of the occasion and those Martyrs whose lives were lost in pursuit of protecting and defending the country over its past years. H.E. Dr. Mohabbat impressed upon all present that for many years, and even leading up to today, so many precious lives have been sacrificed in the struggle to secure peace throughout Afghanistan due to heinous acts of terror. For all those souls who have paid the ultimate price, and for those members of Afghanistan’s National Defense Forces and others who may continue to do so till a lasting peace is achieved, we pay honor and commemorate them on this occasion.

Ambassador Dr. Mohabbat took the opportunity to wish sincerest congratulations to the people and Government of the Ukraine through H.E. Ambassador Mr. Ihor Kharchenko on this most auspicious day. He further conveyed wishes that Ukraine would continue to enjoy renewed and ongoing peace and prosperity, his wishes for the welfare of the Ukraine people, and his desire that the two nations would continue grow a closer friendship in solidarity well into the future. On this most auspicious occasion and on behalf of the people and Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, H.E. Ambassador Dr. Mohabbat expressed most heartfelt congratulations to long-time friend of the Afghan Embassy, H.E. Mr. Lui Tuck Yew, Ambassador of the Republic of Singapore to Japan – with whom he began his tenure as Ambassador with on the same day over two years ago, presenting credentials to His Imperial Highness the Emperor of Japan. Further, H.E. Dr. Mohabbat expressed his gratitude for Singapore’s long standing commitment to Afghanistan’s reconstruction and development, particularly in the realm of Human Capacity Building by offering many scholarships across several fields for Ministry officials. H.E. Dr. Mohabbat proceeded to thank the people and Government of Singapore, for their steadfast support over the years and expressed his hope for their continued prosperity. H.E. Mr. Lui thanked H.E. Dr. Mohabbat for his kind words and in return expressed his wish to see the relationship between Afghanistan and Singapore continue to strengthen and flourish.

Ambassador Dr. Bashir Mohabbat had the pleasure of hosting a lunch reception in honor of a visiting Delegation of Directors, Department Heads, and other high ranking officials from various Ministries, Commissions, and Authorities in Kabul currently in Japan, as well as the PEACE Project and MEXT Scholarship Graduates, at the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan’s Rumi Balkhi Hall, in Tokyo. The reception was also attended by Officials from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Japan International Cooperation Center (JICE), all Diplomats and staff of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in Tokyo.

In the opening ceremony, emcee for the event Mr. Nasrullah Rozbeh, Second Secretary for the Embassy, greeted the guests to the hall and invited. H.E. Ambassador Dr. Mohabbat to the podium to give his remarks on the occasion. On behalf of the people and Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, H.E. Dr. Mohabbat thanked those in attendance for joining the occasion to celebrate the wonderful achievements of the honorary graduates, which have been brought forth through the strong collaboration and generosity of the People and Government of Japan; most notable due to the hard work and dedication of JICA and JICE through their programs in Human Capacity Development.

Remarks were also given by Mr. M. Khalid Arshad, Director General for the Ministry of Education of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan who commended on the great dedication and achievement of the collaborative efforts between Afghanistan and Japan in helping to improve the education standard of Afghanistan through providing the opportunity for self-sustainability by educating Afghan scholars in Japan to complete their Masters and Doctoral studies. Further he expressed his hopes for the continuation of these programs and their continued improvements to the education sector.

Following the speeches, the guests were given a tour of the Embassy grounds and building, after which they were invited to enjoy the Afghan dishes prepared by the Embassy in honor of this special day. To commemorate the occasion, a group photo was taken. All present remarked not only on the enjoyment of the day but also on the strong friendly relations between Afghanistan and Japan.

September 3, 2019: It was a pleasure for H.E. Ambassador Dr. Bashir Mohabbat to attend the 74th Anniversary of the Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia reception hosted by the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia at the Ambassador’s Residence in Tokyo.
On behalf of the people and Government of Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, H.E. Ambassador Dr. Mohabbat expressed his sincerest congratulations on this most auspicious occasion to H.E. Mr. Arifin Tasrif, Ambassador of Indonesia in Japan. Additionally he expressed his deepest gratitude for the benevolent assistance given by the people and Government of Indonesia in Afghanistan over the years on the road to prosperity and peace. In return, H.E. Ambassador Mr. Tasrif thanked H.E. Dr. Mohabbat for his attendance and kind words, and wished for the continuation of profound relations between Afghanistan and Indonesia.

Additionally, H.E. Dr. Mohabbat had the honor of meeting and speaking with several of Their Excellencies the Ambassadors, Diplomats with missions in Japan, and members of several Governments present in order to celebrate the most honorable occasion.
