26/02/2015 Afghanistan Set to Feature on Japan's Most Popular Morning Show, NHK's "Ohayo Japan"

February 26, 2015: The Embassy's Public Affairs Officer showcased warm hospitality during the distinguished Tokyo Metropolitan Government Deputy Director Mr. Takayuki Kawabe and NHK Director Mr. Hiroshi Wakana's visit to the Embassy. The visit was highly successful with both honored guests saying that their perceptions of Afghanistan had completely changed. Furthermore, their visit will be broadcasted on television during Japan's highest ranking morning show "Ohaiyo Japan" on March the 6th which will be watched by some 15.7 million people.

April 24, 2015: His Excellency Ambassador Dr. Fatimie and Ambassadress Fatimie had the rare honor and privilege of accepting an invitation from the Imperial Household Agency to be guests at a Gagaku concert in the Imperial Palace East Garden. Attended by His Imperial Highness Crown Prince Naruhito and Her Imperial Highness Princess Hisako of Takamado, the delights of traditional Japanese classical music were fully enjoyed. H.E. Ambassador Dr. Fatimie had the great pleasure of meeting with distinguished individuals such as the Grand Master of Ceremonies and the Master of Ceremonies of the Imperial Household Agency Mr. Chikao Kawai and Mr. Koji Abe respectively. H.E. Ambassador Dr. Fatimie used the opportunity to, on behalf of the people and Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, extended his deep appreciation to the Imperial Family and the Imperial Household Agency for their ongoing support for the people of Afghanistan.

February 24, 2015: Third Secretary Mr. Sayed Ali Asghar Amiri had the pleasure of attending the Japan Institute of International Affairs (JIIA) Symposium on the topic “Japanese Diplomacy in the Indo-Pacific Age”. The geostrategic, geopolitical, and geoeconomic value of the Indo-Pacific Ocean was discussed, especially as a connection between East and South Asian countries including Japan, Korea, Australia, India, and Indonesia. Many diplomats, researchers, and scholars attended the event.

February 24, 2015: His Excellency Minister Counsellor Mr. Abdul Ghafoor Poya Faryabi welcomed Acting Mayor of Kabul His Excellency Mr. Abdul Ahad Wahid, along with Kabul Mayor's Office Chief of Staff Mr. Noor Ahamd Matin, Kabul Municipality City Planning and Implementation Department Director Mr. Mohammad Yasin Niazy, and Kabul Municipality Team Leader of Land Readjustment Mr. Qiam Shenwary, to the Embassy to say good-bye before they leave Japan. During H.E. Mayor Wahid's stay in Japan, He visited JICA, which has helped Afghanistan in many areas such as reconstruction and healthcare, to discuss their future role in Afghanistan. He also visited Yokohama city. He left Japan on February 24th after a successful trip and having expressed gratitude for Japan’s support of Afghanistan.

February 23, 2015: It was with warm enthusiasm that Third Secretary Mr. Sayed Ali Asghar Amiri welcomed long-time friend of the Embassy and President Ms. Sedeka Eto, Chairman Mr. Bundo, Director Mr. Shinichi Nagata and Ms. Keiko Saito from the NPO Eurasia Club. During the meeting, discussions focused on Eurasia Club's proposal for an Asia Silk Road week which the Embassy promised would receive its full support.

February 19, 2015: The people and Government of Japan and agencies such as JICA have significantly contributed to peace in Asia and the world through supporting peace, democracy and sustainable development in Afghanistan. The meeting with The Honorable Vice-President of JICA Mr. Toshiyuki Kuroyanagi by Acting Mayor of Kabul His Excellency Mr. Abdul Ahad Wahid, the Embassy's Third Secretary Mr. Sayed Ali Asghar Amiri, along with Kabul Mayor's Office Chief of Staff Mr. Noor Ahamd Matin, Kabul Municipality City Planning and Implementation Department Director Mr. Mohammad Yasin Niazy, and Kabul Municipality Team Leader of Land Readjustment Mr. Qiam Shenwary, ensured that relations between Afghanistan and Japan continue to grow for the benefit of the regions and for the world.
The detailed discussions centered around numerous vital issues pertaining to Afghanistan's sustainable development including JICA's role in capacity building in governance, infrastructure, transportation, land readjustment and the KSP project. H.E. Mayor Mr. Wahid and Mr. Amiri communicated their sincere appreciation to JICA Vice President Mr. Toshiyuki Kuroyanagi. Such leadership by Japan is ensuring that not only Afghanistan but the entire region is experiencing the benefits of sustainable socio-economic development.

February 18, 2015: The Embassy had the pleasure of welcoming Mainichi Shimbun journalists Mr. Robert Sakai-Irvine and Ms. Rika Sakai to discuss an upcoming full-page feature story on Afghanistan and Afghan Cuisine. Hosted by the Embassy's Public Affairs Officer and attended by Third Secretary Mr. Sayed Ali Asghar Amiri, the meeting prepared the foundations of what will be media coverage of Afghanistan both in Japan and internationally.

February 17, 2015: Third Secretary Mr. Sayed Ali Asghar Amiri partook in an Asian Opinion Leaders lecture titled "Mongolia After 25 Years Since the Democratic Transition: Lessons Learnt and the Way Forward". Lectured by the former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia H.E. Dr. Sanjaasuren Oyun, the importance of Japan was emphasized and lessons that can be applied to Afghanistan's own development were learnt by Mr. Amiri.

February 09, 2015: His Excellency Minister Counsellor Mr. Abdul Ghafoor Poya Faryabi took great pleasure in participating in a highly stimulating symposium titled "Analysis of Key Actors' Views and Policies Vis-à-vis China". Hosted by the Japan Institute of International Affairs, distinguished Professors presented their research findings regarding China and its role in international affairs to an audience of around one hundred and thirty distinguished participants. The symposium provided an important opportunity for H.E. Mr. Faryabi to represent the people and Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan amongst Japan's esteemed academic community and members of the international diplomatic community here in Tokyo.

05/02/2015 Mr. Amiri Attends Japan Education Forum

February 05, 2015: The Embassy's Third Secretary Mr. Sayed Ali Asghar Amiri relished the opportunity to attend the Japan Education Forum which was supported by Japan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and JICA. The importance of education was discussed in the context of creating a more equitable society at both the local and global levels, goals which JICA actively participates in around the world, focusing on developing countries. Mr. Amiri was informed of the plans for post 2015 progress of education in developing countries including the plans to further basic education rights, the quality of education, equal access regardless of gender and the universal applications of such measures. The forum highlighted the necessities of immediate inaction with some 59 million boys and girls around the world not being educated. In order to address this tragic situation, the role of governments and also NPOs and the private sector were discussed.
