April 28, 2019: It was a pleasure for H.E. Ambassador Dr. Bashir Mohabbat to attend the 2019 JCI World Festival at Komazawa Olympic Park in Setagaya Ward of Tokyo.

This year’s festival, one of the largest international festivals in the area, drew over 15,000 guests to event on the perfectly sunny day. In the opening ceremony, H.E. Ms. Yuriko Koike, Governor of Tokyo Prefecture, gave remarks welcoming all the guests and participants to the event and strongly encouraged them to visit the international booths in order to broaden their horizons even further in preparation for next year’s 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Tokyo. The embassy’s Public Relations Office hosted a cultural booth in the International Friendship Area, in order to introduce Afghan culture and to the many guests who visited the booth. Well over 1000 guests visiting the Afghanistan booth had the opportunity to try Afghan saffron lemonade, learn about the many diverse culture aspects of Afghanistan, hear of the progress and development made over the recent years, and even purchase Afghan items from local Afghan vendors.

While at the festival, H.E. Ambassador Dr. Mohabbat had the pleasure of meeting and speaking with the host of the grand event, Hon. Mr. Masanori Shiozawa, Current President of the Junior Chamber International’s Tokyo Chapter, thanking him for extending the invitation to participate in the event to the Embassy. Further, on behalf of the people and Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, H.E. Dr. Mohabbat thanked the people and Government of the friendly and noble nation of Japan for their steadfast and benevolent support of Afghanistan over the years as it has strived for development, peace, and prosperity in an Afghan-owned and Afghan-led process. In return, Hon. Mr. Shiozawa thanked H.E. Dr. Mohabbat for attending the event, hosting an Afghanistan booth, and for his kind words. Moreover he promised that JCI would endeavor to stand with and support Afghanistan well into the future and the Embassy in many ways including hosting a Afghanistan Press and Information house for the upcoming 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Tokyo. All those who visited the Afghanistan booth remarked how enjoyable and enlightening their new impression of Afghanistan was and remarked how much the wished for even further peace and prosperity for Afghanistan in the future.

May 17, 2019: It was a pleasure for H.E. Ambassador Dr. Bashir Mohabbat to welcome representative members from Kokuyo Co. Ltd. and NPO Association of Sahadat for Children in Afghanistan (ASCA)to the Rumi Balkhi Hall in order to ceremonially sign a contract donating goods collected by the aforementioned organizations into the care of the Ministry of Education of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, through their representatives of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in Tokyo, at the Embassy building in Tokyo.

H.E. Ambassador Dr. Mohabbat welcomed the distinguished guests from both delegations. Following this, representatives from the three parties involved were invited one at a time to the signing area to sign the contract; beginning with Mr. Hidekuni Kuroda, Chief Representative of Kokuyo Corporation; followed by Madam Yasuko Yanagihara-Mohabbat, Founder of NPO ASCA; and finalized by H.E. Ambassador Dr. Bashir Mohabbat.

In his opening remarks, H.E. Dr. Mohabbat deeply thanked both organizations Kokuyo Co. Ltd. and NPO ASCA for their generous donation and time in acquiring materials with which to help support and continue the education of children in Afghanistan. Remarks were given by Mr. Hidekuni Kuroda, Chief Representative of Kokuyo Corporation, who expressed his great interest and appreciation for the importance in the promotion of educational projects in Afghanistan. This was followed by remarks by Madam Yasuko Yanagihara-Mohabbat, Founder of NPO ASCA, on the importance of children in founding the path to progress and peace in Afghanistan. The NPO ASCA is actively contributing to the support of the education sector in Afghanistan. Since 2011, ASCA’s tireless efforts have helped to improve the quality of life and educational opportunities of Afghan children and their communities.

Following the ceremony for the signing of the contract, H.E. Dr. Mohabbat hosted a small reception in the Ambassador’s residence to celebrate and thank the benefactors for their donation as well as for their continuous assistance toward Afghanistan.

May 16, 2019: It was a pleasure for H.E. Ambassador Dr. Bashir Mohabbat to attend the Iftar Dinner in the Ambassador’s residence at Embassy of the Republic of Turkey during the most Holy Month of Ramadan. Also guests of H.E. the Ambassador of Turkey for the Iftar dinner in attendance for the evening were others of Their Excellencies the Ambassadors of Islamic nations with missions in Japan.
H.E. Dr. Hasan Murat Mercan, Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey, warmly welcomed H.E. Ambassador Dr. Mohabbat and expressed his gratitude for his attending the event. In return, H.E. Dr. Mohabbat thanked H.E. Dr. Mercan, on behalf of the people and Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, for the long and benevolent support of the people and Government of Turkey over the years. Further he remarked that the kind and truly meaningful cooperation they have given has helped progress Afghanistan’s development and furthering of peace in an Afghan-owned and Afghan-led process. H.E. Dr. Mercan reciprocated his assurance that as a brother country Turkey will continue to support Afghanistan as it strives for peace. Along with the wonderful meal, a strong sense of brotherhood was felt through the interactions between all nations’ representatives present and their bright futures actively moving toward peace were discussed.

May 14, 2019: It was an honor for H.E. Ambassador Dr. Bashir Mohabbat to attend the supportive reception for his long time friend, H.E. Mr. Masahisa Sato, State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, at the Meiji Kinenkan in Tokyo.

Welcoming remarks were given at the opening ceremony by H.E. Mr. Taro Kono, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan. H.E. Dr. Mohabbat thanked H.E. State Minister Mr. Sato for the invitation as well as expressed, on behalf of people and the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, deep appreciation to the Japanese government through H.E. Mr. Sato for its continuing support of Afghanistan’s reconstruction process which is paving the way for increased greater livelihood, peace and prosperity for the Afghan people in an Afghan-owned and Afghan-led process. In return, H.E. Mr. Sato thanked H.E. Dr. Mohabbat for his attendance as well as for his kind words, assuring him that Japan would continue to stand with Afghanistan well into the future.

May 14, 2019: It was an honor for H.E. Ambassador Dr. Bashir Mohabbat to attend the annual meeting of the Japanese ambassadors to the Middle East and Africa, hosted by H.E. Mr. Taro Kono, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held at the Iikura Guest House in Tokyo.

This annual meeting serves with the noble intention to strengthen the important relationships among the host nation of Japan and the many nations in Africa and the Middle East region. The heads of missions for these countries are able to meet, network, and familiarize themselves with one another in order to build the most ideal and warm of relations. On behalf of the people and Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, H.E. Dr. Mohabbat expressed sincerest appreciation to the host of the event, H.E. Mr. Taro Kono, Foreign Minister of Japan, and gave heartfelt thanks to the noble nation of Japan for their continuous benevolent support over the years as Afghanistan has worked towards enduring progress prosperity and peace in an Afghan-owned and Afghan-led process. In return. H.E. Foreign Minister Kono assured H.E. Dr. Mohabbat that Japan would continue to stand with Afghanistan well into the future and greatly admired the recent progress being made on the peace front by the Afghan government.

Through the course of the evening, H.E. Dr. Mohabbat also had the pleasure of meeting with H.E. Mr. Mitsuji Suzuka, Ambassador of Japan to Afghanistan, as well as H.E. Mr. Aisawa Ichiro, Member of the House of Representatives and former State Minister for Foreign Affairs as well as former Parliamentary Vice-minister of Trade and Industry, to whom he expressed sincerest gratitude and appreciation on behalf of the people and government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan for standing by them and being true friends over the years as they have striven for peace. Additionally he had the pleasure of meeting with several of Their Excellencies the Ambassadors, heads of missions in Japan, diplomats, dignitaries, and other guests, all of whom he greeted warmly and discussed topics of mutual interest.

May 11-12, 2019: It was a pleasure for H.E. Ambassador Dr. Bashir Mohabbat to attend the 20th Annual Thai Festival hosted by the Royal Thai Embassy at Yoyogi Park in Tokyo.
The annual Thai Festival promotes and celebrates Thai culture and facilitates a continuing happy relationship between Japan and Thailand. This year the festivities were fortunate to have the attendance of H.E. Mr. Don Pramudwinai, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand, while on his official visit to Japan. While at the event, H.E. Ambassador Dr. Mohabbat availed himself of the opportunity to express his sincerest congratulations on the successful weekend long festival to the host, H.E. Ambassador Mr. Bansarn Bunnag of the Royal Thai Embassy as well as to H.E. Foreign Minister Pramudwinai. In return, H.E. Ambassador Mr. Bunnag and H.E. Foreign Minister Pramudwinai thanked H.E. Dr. Mohabbat for his kind words and for attending the event. Further, on behalf of the people and Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, H.E. Dr. Mohabbat extended sincerest thanks and appreciation to the people and government of the Kingdom of Thailand through H.E. Foreign Minister Pramudwinai for their continuous support and generosity over the last 18 years as Afghanistan has endeavored to seek redevelopment, progress, prosperity, and peace. H.E. Foreign Minister vowed that the Kingdom of Thaliand would continue to support Afghanistan well into the future most especially so in her Afghan-owned and Afghan-led peace process. The gentlemen agreed to expand and make more profound the relations between their two countries.

May 10, 2019: It was a pleasure for H.E. Ambassador Dr. Bashir Mohabbat to host a dinner and cultural heritage seminar for over 70 members of the NPO World Heritage Academy at the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in Tokyo, Japan.

The Guests of the World Heritage Academy were greeted with welcoming remarks by H.E. Ambassador Dr. Mohabbat who had prepared a special evening for the guests. H.E. Ambassador Dr. Mohabbat spoke on the most precious and long relations between Afghanistan and Japan, and how forever, heart to heart, the two countries and their people would be tied in friendship. Further, the guests were given a delightful and informative presentation on Afghanistan’s culture, history, natural resources, and progress by Mr. Ashraf Baburi of the Embassy’s staff.

Following their presentation on Afghanistan, the guests were treated to delicious Afghan food carefully prepared by the embassy. While they dined they were entertained by the sounds of the Japanese-Afghan fusion musical group, “Chalpasah” playing traditional Afghan instruments and singing Afghan songs.

At the completion of the meal and entertainment, Hon. Mr. Masatou Kitamura, Head Director of the World Heritage Academy and Honorary Adviser of The Minichi Newspapers, thanked H.E. Dr. Mohabbat, all the Embassy diplomats and staff for the amazing Afghan hospitality and for teaching them just how wonderful Afghanistan and her people truly are. All those present had an enjoyable time and remarked at how impressed they were with their new introduction to the wonders of Afghanistan.
