July 31, 2018: His Excellency Ambassador Dr. Bashir Mohabbat had the great honor and pleasure to attend the reception for the inauguration of Honorable Professor Shuichi Furuya as Member-Designate of the Human Rights Committee (CCPR) and Honorable Professor Hiroko Akizuki as Member-Designate of the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW). The event was held at the Tokyo Prince Hotel in Minato, Tokyo.
At the event, H.E. Ambassador Dr. Mohabbat had the great honor and pleasure to meet and converse with His Excellency Mr. Manabu Horii, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan. Dr. Mohabbat expressed his thanks to H.E. Mr. Horii for his invitation and expressed on the behalf of the people and the Government of Afghanistan his sincerest gratitutde for Japan's tremendous help and support in reconstructing the Afghan nation. In return, H.E. Mr. Horii welcomed His Excellency Ambassador’s kind words and assured him that Japan will continue to stay at Afghanistan’s side. H.E. Ambassador Dr. Mohabbat also congratulated Hon. Prof. Furuya and Hon. Prof Akizuki respectfully for becoming Member-Designates and wished them the best of luck for their endurance in their newly established tasks. In return, Hon. Prof. Furuya and Hon. Prof. Akizuki thanked His Excellency for his support.
Additionally, His Excellency had the great chance to meet with several of Their Excellencies the Ambassadors and Honorable Diplomats with missions to Japan, and high-ranking Members of the Japanese Government present in honor of the occasion.

July 31, 2018: His Excellency Ambassador Dr. Bashir Mohabbat had the great honor and pleasure to join the celebration of the Sankei International SHO exhibition’s 35th Anniversary organized by the Sankei Shimbun and Sankei International Sho Association at the Meiji Kinenkan “Fuji” in Tokyo. The event was also attended by Her Royal Highness Princess Takamado, Member of the Japanese Imperial Family.
At the occasion, H.E. Ambassador Dr. Mohabbat expressed his thanks for his invitation and congratulated Honorable Chairman and CEO of the Sankei Shimbun Mr. Takamitsu Kumasaka for the recurring anniversary of the Sankei International SHO exhibition. His Excellency also expressed his most profound gratitude on behalf of the people and the Government of Afghanistan for the coverage about Afghanistan’s ongoing developments by the Sankei Shimbun. H.E. Ambassador Dr. Mohabbat expressed his particular appreciation for the Sankei Shimbun’s articles about the exhibitions of Afghanistan’s treasures from the Afghan National Museum in the Tokyo National and the Kyushu National Museum in 2016. In return, Honorable Mr. Takamitsu thanked Dr. Mohabbat for his generous words.

July 30, 2018: His Excellency Ambassador Dr. Bashir Mohabbat had the great honor and pleasure to attend the Reception of the 40th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Diplomatic Relations between Djibouti and Japan at the Hotel New Otani in Tokyo.
During the reception, H.E. Ambassador Dr. Mohabbat had the great honor and pleasure to meet and converse with His Excellency Ambassador Mr. Ahmed Araita Ali, Ambassador of the Republic of Djibouti, to whom he expressed his sincerest gratitude for his invitation. He also wished for the Government and the people of Djibouti health and prosperity and looks forward to more collaboration between Djibouti and Afghanistan. In return, H.E. Ambassador Mr. Ali thanked H.E. Ambassador Dr. Mohabbat thanked His Excellency for his kindhearted and warm words, and for joining the reception to celebrate the Djibouti-Japan relations.

July 30, 2018: His Excellency Ambassador Dr. Bashir Mohabbat had the great honor and pleasure to attend the Reception on the occasion of the 19th Anniversary of the Accession to the Throne of His Majesty the King Mohammed VI of the Kingdom of Morocco at the Palace Hotel in Tokyo. The reception was to celebrate Morocco’s national celebration of the “Throne Day” which is the national celebration of commemorating the King Mohammed VI’s accession to the throne.
During the occasion, H.E. Ambassador Dr. Mohabbat had the great honor and pleasure to meet and converse with His Excellency Ambassador Mr. Rachad Bouhlal, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Morocco to Japan, to whom he expressed his sincerest gratitude for his invitation. In accordance with the event and on behalf of the people and Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, H.E. Ambassador Dr. Mohabbat wished for King Mohammed VI health and longevity. His Excellency also expressed his thanks to the Honorable Government of Morocco and its people for standing with Afghanistan. In return, H.E. Ambassador Bouhlal thanked H.E. July 27, 2018: Second Secretary and Head of Cultural Affairs for the Embassy of Afghanistan Mr. Agah had the great pleasure of meeting with Sport for Tomorrow in Tokyo, which is a Japanese initiative that aims to bring sporting values to all generations around the world through various programmes.

Mr. Agah had the fortune of speaking to Deputy Director Mr. Koji Nakahira, Senior Specialist for Olympic and Paralympic Games Division Mr. Masahiro Msaunaga, and Olympic and Paralympic Games Division Specialist Mr. Akito Hamada from Sport for Tomorrow. Mr. Agah thanked Sport for Tomorrow for hosting him at their offices and in return the delegation thanked Mr. Agah for his interests and his time. At their meeting Mr. Agah was able to learn more about the initiatives and the positive contributions they could have for Afghan sportsmen and sportswomen. As such, the Second Secretary expressed interest in adding Afghanistan to the program which is overseen and managed by the National Federation for Sport in Japan. Meetings to facilitate this request are being scheduled with the hope that this partnership can come to fruition.

July 25-26, 2018: His Excellency Ambassador Dr. Bashir Mohabbat of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan had the great pleasure and honor to travel to Gifu Prefecture to join the annual Gifu Tour through the prefecture. The event was organized by the Board of Ceremonies of the Imperial Household and the International Affairs Division of Gifu Prefectural Government to whom he expressed his sincerest thanks for organizing such an excellent event. The tour included a 2-day program: A Cormorant Fishing Event on the first day followed by a Gifu City Tour on the second.
July 25, 2018: During the event, H.E. Dr. Mohabbat had the great pleasure of meeting and conversing with the Honorable Mr. Yoshitaka Akimoto, the Grand Master of Ceremonies, to whom he extended his sincerest gratitude for the invitation. At the ceremony, H.E. Dr. Mohabbat further expressed appreciation for the generous support of the people and government of Japan in assisting Afghan reconstruction and wished for eternal friendship between Afghanistan and Japan. H.E. Dr. Mohabbat affirmed the importance of such deeply rooted cultural events, which do much to enhance the diplomatic missions of the various nations represented. In return, the Honorable Mr. Yoshita expressed thanks to H.E. Dr. Mohabbat and the Embassy of Afghanistan for making time in their schedule to attend and participate in this truly unique event.

July 26, 2018: On the following day, H.E. Dr. Mohabbat had the tremendous honor of attending a tour of Gifu prefecture, along with numerous other ambassadors, at the invitation of the Gifu Prefectural Government. Known as “The Land of Clear Waters,” Gifu Prefecture offers stunning retreats into nature and is a wonderful showcase of the beauty Japan has to offer, in addition to its many historic towns and cities. The tour took the distinguished Ambassadors, diplomats, and their families to the Gifu-Kakamigahara Air and Space Museum, Gujo Hachiman Castle, Food Replica & Workshop Facility, and to the Globally Important Agricultural Heritage System (GIAHS) at the Nagara River in the Ayu Park.
Additionally, H.E. Ambassador Dr. Mohabbat had the great honor and pleasure to meet Honorable Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs Mr. Takeo Akiba and Honorable Vice-Grand Steward of the Imperial Household Mr. Yasuhiko Nishimura. Furthermore, H.E. Dr. Mohabbat was chosen out of several Ambassadors in attendance to be interviewed by the Gifu TV channel. H.E. Dr. Mohabbat expressed immense joy in the opportunity to share his experience and express just how deep the bond between Japan and the people of Afghanistan truly is.

2018.07.24 Meeting with Dr. Reshad Khalid.

July 24, 2018: His Excellency Ambassador Dr. Bashir Mohabbat and the Honorable Diplomats of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan had the honor and pleasure of welcoming Dr. Khaled Reshad. Dr. Reshad has served as a bridge between Afghanistan and Japan for many years, and thus, became a prominent Afghan intermediary and figurehead. Especially, after having established the "Karez Health and Educational Services" in 2002 to support Afghanistan through the fields of medicine and education, Dr. Reshad gained admiration for his work by the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan.

Dr. Reshad received Foreign Minister’s Commendations for FY 2018 award on July 24, which is the field of the promotion of mutual understanding between Japan and Afghanistan. Ambassador Dr. Mohabbat expressed his deepest gratitude for Dr. Reshad’s meaningful efforts that have served to bring the people of Afghanistan and Japan closer together. As a respected figure both by Afghans and Japanese.

July 24, 2018: His Excellency Ambassador Dr. Bashir Mohabbat had the honor and pleasure to receive a Courtesy Call by Mr. Yasunori Shimamoto, Regional Director of the WFD RSA, and Mr. Yasunobu Ishii, the Senior Program Director of the NFT, to the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in Tokyo. Also in attendance was Mr. Asif Agah, Second Secretary and Cultural Affairs.
H.E. Ambassador Dr. Mohabbat extended his warmest welcome and deepest appreciation to Mr. Shimamoto and Mr. Ishii for their kind visit to the embassy. In return, Mr. Shimamoto and Mr. Ishii each expressed their thanks to H.E. Dr. Mohabbat for his sincere words and for again making time in his schedule to meet. They discussed ways Afghanistan can rejoin and contribute to WFD RSA, successfully creating a mutually benefiting relationship and providing assistance to the disabled in Afghanistan who are suffering the most during times of conflict. H.E. Dr. Mohabbat wishes to take the necessary steps in completing the rejoining of WFD RSA. Mr. Ishii, assures H.E. Dr. Mohabbat that the society will ensure a successful application process and joining of the WFD RSA. Furthermore, both understand the great benefits to both the people of Afghanistan and Japan, continuing to deepen the bonds between the two countries.
Additionally, discussion on the event scheduled for Sept 23rd which is organized by the World Federation of the Deaf Regional Secretariat for Asia (WFD RSA) & the Nippon Foundation (NFT) in Tokyo was elaborated on. The event is intended to celebrate the resolution passed by the United Nations at the beginning of 2018 – recognizing that sign languages are equal to spoken languages. They further discussed topics of mutual interests.

July 20, 2018: His Excellency Ambassador Dr. Bashir Mohabbat of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan had the great pleasure to attend the “Fukushima Fair in MOFA” at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Tokyo, Japan.
The fair, organized by Japan’s MOFA, helps to promote products of Fukushima Prefecture such as newly harvested rice, seasonal fruits like peaches, and other confectioneries. It also teaches the correct information and knowledge about the safety of agricultural and fishery products in Fukushima.
H.E. Ambassador Dr. Mohabbat had the great pleasure to try some of the products of Fukushima and was highly impressed with their quality and flavor. While at the event, H.E. Dr. Mohabbat had the pleasure of meeting with Hon. Mr. Naoki Itou, Director of the Fukushima Prefectural Government’s Tokyo Office, who he congratulated on such a successful and delightful event. Further, he assured Hon. Mr. Itou as well as all officials from MOFA and Fukushima Prefecture Government officials that he will continue to spread awareness about the qualitative Fukushima products, which he experienced during his attendance. In return, MOFA and the Fukushima Prefecture expressed their highest gratitude toward H.E. Dr. Mohabbat and assured him that likewise they would continue to support and stand by the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan. H.E. Jul 20, 2018: Mr. Asif Agah, Second Secretary of the Embassy of Afghanistan in Japan, had the great pleasure to attend a meeting at the UNU Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability, in Tokyo, Japan.

Mr. Agah had the honor and pleasure to meet with Ms. Maiko Araki, Programme Coordinator and Ms. Hikari Ogawa, Programme Assistant, Postgraduate Programme, both to the UNU Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability. Mr. Agah thanked both Ms. Araki and Ms. Ogawa for taking the time to meet and for the United Nations continuous and substantive assistance it has provided during the rebuilding process of Afghanistan. Ms. Araki and Ms. Ogawa returned their gratitude to Mr. Agah and thanked him for the kind words and assured him that the United Nations would continue to support Afghanistan in every way possible, well into the future. They further discussed scholarship opportunities for Afghan students entering both highly competitive fields within the Masters and Ph.D. programs at the United Nations University. Mr. Agah understands the competitiveness and will strive to encourage stronger candidates from Afghanistan by contacting the Ministry of Higher Education in Afghanistan. Ms. Araki and Ms. Ogawa believe that this will increase the likelihood of successful scholarship awards for Afghan students in the future.

July 19, 2018: First Secretary & Head of Political Affairs of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Mr. Basir Hamdard had the great pleasure and honor to attend the Inauguration Celebration for Tokyo’s Metropolitan Assembly’s New Chairman Mr. Ozaki Daisuke at the Keio Plaza Hotel in Tokyo. The Inauguration celebrated the election of Mr. Ozaki Daisuke to become the next Chairman of the Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly which is the prefectural parliament of Tokyo. During the event, Mr. Hamdrad had the great honor and pleasure to meet Governor of Tokyo Ms. Yuriko Koike with whom Mr. Hamdard had a conversation about the recent heavy rainfalls in eastern parts of Japan which caused flooding, landslides, and left hundreds of people dead. Accordingly, Mr. Hamdard expressed his deepest condolences to Governor Ms. Koike and the people affected by the disaster. He also expressed his support by sending courage from the Embassy of Afghanistan to the victims of the disaster. In return, Governor Ms. Koike expressed her thanks to Mr. Hamdard and assured him that his and the Embassy’s support are of great importance. Mr. Hamdard also had the great pleasure and honor to meet and conversate with Mr. Ozaki Daisuke to congratulate him on his new position as chairman; for which Mr. Daisuke thanked him. Mr. Hamdard truly enjoyed the celebration due to the informative and vibrant discussions and conversations he had with other attendees. He also enjoyed the given speeches by Mr. Daisuke, Mr. Shirato, and Mr. Shigeru themselves. Mr. Hamdard also invited Mr. Shirato and several other Tokyo governmental officials to give the Embassy of Afghanistan a visit in the near future. In return, Mr Shirato as well as the governmental Officials thanked Mr. Hamdard for his kind words and kindly accepted his invitation to visit the Embassy soon.

July 18, 2018: His Excellency Ambassador Dr. Bashir Mohabbat of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan had the great pleasure and honor to join the 2025 Osaka-Kansai Expo Promotion Event at the Liberal Democratic Party’s (LDP) Head Office in Chiyoda, Tokyo. During the event, H.E. Ambassador Dr. Bashir Mohabbat had the great pleasure and honor to meet His Excellency Secretary-General of the LDP Mr.Toshihiro Nikai to whom he voiced his genuine appreciation.

The 2025 Osaka-Kansai Expo’s theme surrounds the topic of “Designing Future Society for Our Lives” which aims to promote a society in which issues such as medical and healthcare, food and agriculture, the environment and climate change, energy resources, and safety and disaster prevention are solved. Furthermore, it hopes to encourage a healthy life in a diverse and a sustainable socioeconomic system. Therefore, with Afghanistan’s current political, economic, and cultural development, H.E. Dr. Mohabbat showed his greatest interest for including the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in order to bring over the new insights from the upcoming expo. Conversely, H.E. Ambassador Dr. Mohabbat expressed his sincerest congratulations to the 2025 Osaka-Kansai Expo for being promoted at the LDP headquarters in Tokyo and assured them that Afghanistan was in support of this event. Accordingly, he also congratulated the 2025 Osaka-Kansai team for their efforts of being promoted at the United Nations Headquarters in New York on July 16th this year. He expressed his genuine gratitude to H.E. LDP Secretary-General Mr. Toshihiro Nikai for inviting him to attend the event, and for his outstanding support in sponsoring the 2025 Osaka-Kansai Expo. In return, the organizers of the Event as well as his H.E. S.G. Mr. Nikai expressed their sincerest thanks and honor toward H.E. Dr. Mohabbat and the Embassy of Afghanistan for attending and as well as for Afghanistan's support of the event. In addition, S.G. On behalf of the people and Government of Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, H.E. Ambassador Dr. Mohabbat expressed his sincerest congratulations on this most auspicious occasion to H.E. Mr. Laurent Pic, Ambassador of France in Japan. Additionally he expressed his deepest gratitude for the benevolent assistance given and the noble sacrifices made by the people and Government of France in Afghanistan over the years on the road to peace and progress. July 12, 2018: His Excellency Ambassador Dr. Bashir Mohabbat had the honor and pleasure of meeting with Mr. Toshio Shimizu, Editor of the Cultural Section and Ms. Yoshiko Kawaharada, Staff Writer; both of the Chunichi Newspaper, Nagoya Headquarters, to the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in Tokyo.
H.E. Ambassador Dr. Mohabbat extended his warmest welcome and deepest appreciation to Mr. Shimizu and Ms. Kawaharada for their kind visit to the embassy. In return, Mr. Shimizu and Ms. Kawaharada each expressed their thanks to H.E. Dr. Mohabbat for his sincere words and for again making time in his schedule to meet. They discussed their previous request for H.E. Dr. Mohabbat to write a short piece encompassing topics of Peace and War in Afghanistan as it will be later released in their August publication. H.E. Dr. Mohabbat expressed great joy in this opportunity to share his “Haiku of Peace” on behalf of the people of Afghanistan all while recounting his wonderful past experiences in Nagoya when completing his Masters degree. He further discussed the great positive impact it had on crystallizing peace and hospitality into his heart.

Jul 11, 2018: His Excellency Ambassador Dr. Bashir Mohabbat had the pleasure of attending the Yomiuri International Economic Society 371st Lecture Meeting at the Fuji Room, Imperial Hotel in Tokyo, Japan.
On behalf of the people and Government of Afghanistan, H.E. Ambassador Dr. Mohabbat took great pleasure in attending the YIES 371st Lecture Meeting where guest speaker, Hon. Mr. Yoshihide Suga, Chief Cabinet Secretary, discussed the "Governing Style of the Abe Administration". H.E. Dr. Mohabbat expressed to the hosts of the event his gratitude for the invitation to the Lecture and the continual support of Afghanistan by Japan. In return, they thanked H.E. Dr. Mohabbat for his kind words and expressed hope that their countries continue to develop more profound relations. Additionally, he had the honor of meeting and speaking with several of Their Excellencies the Ambassadors, Diplomats with missions in Japan, and high ranking members of several Governments present.

July 10, 2018: Mr. Mohammad Asif Agah, Second Secretary, representing the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Embassy had the great pleasure meeting the Rector of the United Nations University Tokyo Honorable Dr. David M. Malone. Also in attendance was His Excellency Ambassador Dr. Bashir Mohabbat from the Afghanistan Embassy.
Mr. Agah expressed his sincerest gratitude towards Hon. Dr. David M. Malone’s for giving him the great pleasure to meet him in his office. He also extended his congratulations to Hon. Dr. Malone on his reappointment as the Rector of UN University through to 2023. Conversely, Hon. Dr. Malone thanked Mr. Agah for his genuine words and for meeting him at his office in the UN University. He also expressed his wishes for continual success in the relations between the United Nations and Afghanistan.
Additionally, and in accordance with H.E. Dr. Mohabbat, Mr. Agah expressed his hopes that the UN University would endeavor to consider increasing scholarship opportunities for Afghan students at their institution to continue the human capacity development of Afghanistan for maximizing progress. Mr. Agah and H.E. Dr. Mohabbat also expressed their gratitude on behalf of the people and Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan for the continuous and substantive assistance and proactive support from the United Nations and its many sub-groups. Hon. Dr. Malone assured Mr. Agah that the United Nations would continue to stand with Afghanistan and to be certain to ameliorate the profound relations between Afghanistan and the international community – so that together they could assure the cooperative and all-inclusive route to regional, and thus global, peace. He also said that the Ph.D. and Master's programs at UN University have highly competitive entrances but that hopefully in the future there might be a way to secure more scholarship opportunities for Afghan students.

Also in attendance was Mr. Mohammad Asif Agah, Second Secretary, representing the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Embassy.
H.E. Ambassador Dr. Mohabbat extended his deep appreciation to Hon. Dr. David M. Malone’s for making time in his schedule to meet. Additionally he extended his congratulations to Hon. Dr. Malone on hiss reappointment as the Rector of UN University through to 2023. In return, Hon. Dr. Malone thanked H.E. Dr. Mohabbat for his sincere words and for making time in his schedule to meet. He also expressed his wishes for continual success in the relations between the United Nations and Afghanistan.

July 06, 2018: First Secretary Mr. Rahim Azimi had the great pleasure to receive a guided tour through the Daimler Company in Kanagawa (Tokyo) and the, by Daimler owned, Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation (MFTBC) in Kawasaki (Japan) which was organized by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO). Mr. Azimi joined the tour at the United Nations University’s headquarters in Shibuya from where he took a provided bus to both locations. The UNIDO often organizes tours for Embassy Representatives with missions in Japan to bridge developing and emerging countries to Japanese businesses. This time, the tour included the MFTBC plant in Kawasaki which produces an extensive range of Mitsubishi Fuso’s heavy-, medium-, and light-duty truck while it also shares the same site with Mitsubishi’s Research & Development Center.

Mr. Azimi experienced with great joy the manufacturing processes, the company’s logistics and supplies, as well as Daimler’s cooperation between its sub-companies. Furthermore, Mr. Azimi had the great honor to meet with several representatives from Daimler and MFTBC with whom he shared conversations about the car industry within South Asia and Japan. Thus, Mr. Azimi was highly impressed by the tour and expressed his gratitude towards the organisers, the UNIDO, as well as Daimler and the MFTBC. He also thanked the United Nations University Tokyo for supporting such an opportunity and encouraged all sites to offer such tours more often. Also, the UNIDO, Daimler, and the MFTBC thanked Mr. Azimi for joining the tour and invited other officials from the Embassy to join in the future.

Mr. Azimi additionally had the opportunity to meet and talk with several company officials, manufactures, and other government officials who also joined the event.

July 06, 2018: First Secretary and Head of Political Affairs Mr. Basir Hamdard had the great pleasure and honor to attend The Japan Institute for International Affairs (JIIA) Symposium on "Looking Back at Asia in the 20th Century from the Perspectives of International Relations and State-Building" at the International House of Japan in Minato (Tokyo) together with His Excellency Dr. Bashir Mohabbat. The JIIA organized this symposium to enhance public awareness of international affairs and develop global networks and collaboration.
Also present at the event was Mr. Shinichi KITAOKA, President of the Japan International Cooperations Agency (JICA), Former President of the International University of Japan, and former Japanese Ambassador to the United Nations. He and H.E. Dr. Mohabbat, and Mr. Hamdard were able to speak to one another and discuss their views on Asia’s international relations in the past and how they believe relations between Afghanistan and Japan will progress in the future. Mr. Hamdard thanked Mr. Hitaoka for the pleasure of speaking with him, and in return, Mr. Hitaoka thanked Mr. Hamdard for attending the symposium and sharing his time.
Both, H.E. Dr. Mohabbat and Mr. Hamdard were honored to receive the invitation to the symposium to hear distinguished speakers from around the world speak on current international affairs and Japanese foreign policy and to offer their insights on issues as well.
