Attendance at the Spring Special Gagaku Performance Celebrating the 30th Anniversary of the Enthronement of His Majesty the Emperor.
March 18, 2019: It was an honor and pleasure for H.E. Ambassador Dr. Bashir Mohabbat to attend the Spring Special Gagaku Performance Celebrating the 30th Anniversary of the Enthronement of His Majesty the Emperor at the Music Department of the Imperial Palace.
Gagaku is performed at several court functions at the Imperial Palace, at State Dinners and on the occasion of the Spring and Autumn Garden Parties. In addition, in 1956, in order to open Gagaku to a wider cultural audience and wider cross section of the public, a bi-annual spring and autumn Gagaku recital was instituted by the Music Department of the Imperial Household. In the spring, cultural groups and resident diplomatic corps, and in the autumn, applicants through newspaper, radio and other media attend performances for three days at the Imperial Palace. This performance was given in honor of the 30th Anniversary of the enthronement of His Majesty the Emperor, and would serve to be his last as he will be abdicating the throne next month. While at the event, H.E. Ambassador Dr. Mohabbat had the pleasure of meeting with several of Their Excellencies the Ambassadors, diplomats with missions in japan, members of government, and other distinguished guests present for the occasion.
