Mr. Agah attends at the United Nations University’s headquarters in Tokyo the Conversation Series about “Beyond Countries and Conflicts: Civilians Countering Extremism in Africa” with Ms. Alexis Okeowo & Ms. Hillary McBride

June 08, 2018: Second Secretary and Head of Cultural Affairs at the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Mr. Asif Agah attended with great pleasure the Conversation Series about “Beyond Countries and Conflicts: Civilians Countering Extremism in Africa” with Ms. Alexis Okeowo, Journalist at the New York Times and author of A Moonless, Starless Sky: Ordinary Women and Men Fighting Extremism in Africa, and Ms. Hillary McBride, UN University’s Head of Communications at the United Nations University’s headquarters in Tokyo.
The conversation discussed the crucial role of local groups in fighting extremism in Africa. Furthermore, it discussed how Africa as a continent and the international community could do to support the defeat of extremism. For Mr. Agah, it was a great pleasure to join the conversation which he found very informative and vibrant. Mr. Agah enjoyed learning more about the situation in Africa and hoped that the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan could learn from such experience. Also, Mr. Agah clarified that the country of Afghanistan would do everything in its power to help the fight against extremism, and ensured that Afghanistan also hopes to halt extremism within its territories. Finally, Mr. Agah expressed his thanks to the UN University Tokyo and the speakers Ms Okeow and Ms. McBride for inviting him to the conversation while conversely, the UN University, as well as Ms. Okeow and Ms. McBride, thanked him for joining.
