June 20, 2018: H.E. Ambassador Dr. Bashir Mohabbat had the pleasure of attending a meeting with Hon. Mr. Takashi Matsuo, Asian Development Bank Representative, at the Kasumigaseki Building in Tokyo. Also in attendance was Mr. Basir Ahmad Hamdard, First Secretary of the Embassy of Afghanistan in Tokyo.
The purpose of this meeting was to personally hand Hon. Mr. Matsuo an invitation packet to be passed on to H.E. Mr. Takehiko Nakao, President of Asian Development Bank, to the Ministerial Conference on Afghanistan that will take place on November 27-28 2018. H.E. Dr. Mohabbat emphasized the importance and significance of this planned Ministerial Conference on Afghanistan in Geneva later this year -- jointly hosted by the Government of Afghanistan, United Nations, Joint Coordination & Monitoring Board, and the International Community. Further, H.E. Dr. Mohabbat expressed just how eager Their Excellencies the Ministers in Kabul were for the Japanese presence of H.E. Mr. Nakao, President of ADB, to attend this event and impart their views and participation in providing feedback on the National Priority Programs (NPPS) agreed to in the previous international conferences on Afghanistan.
Hon. Mr. Matsuo thanked H.E. Dr. Mohabbat for arranging to bring him the invitation packet for H.E. Mr. Nakao from Their Excellencies the Ministers in Kabul, and promised to usher the packet to H.E. Mr. Nakao as well as convey the significance of attending and participating in the event. In return, H.E. Dr. Mohabbat thanked Hon. Mr. Matsuo for hosting their meeting and for his continued effort in maintaining the relationship between Afghanistan and Japan. Further, he expressed his wholehearted thanks and appreciation for the ADB of Japan for their continuous and benevolent assistance to Afghanistan over the years. Hon. Mr. Matsuo assured H.E. Dr. Mohabbat that Japan would continue to stand by and support Afghanistan well into the future.
