His Excellency Attends SPF Lecture by H.E. Foreign Minister of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
September 1, 2016: His Excellency Ambassador Dr. Sayed Mohammad Amin Fatimie and H.E. Dr. Bashir Mohabbat, Minister-Counsellor, had the pleasure and honor of attending a Commemorative Lecture by the Foreign Minister of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, H.E. Adel bin Ahmad Al-Jubeir. The lecture, “Kingdom of Saudi Arabia: Foreign Policy toward Middle East and East Asia” was given on the occasion of the official visit of H.R.H Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Deputy Crown Prince and Minister of Defense, to Japan. This opportunity enabled all in attendance to learn the specificities of Saudi Arabia’s new foreign policy toward Asia.
The opening remarks were given by Mr. Nobuo Tanaka, President of the Sasakawa Peace Foundation, after which H.E. Adel bin Ahmad Al-Jubeir gave his highly informative keynote speech. He expressed the opinion that as Saudi Arabia is the foremost leading country of the Islamic World, as it is home to two important Islamic faith sites. Thus it feels a responsibility and plays a key role in the region, obliged to generously serve as a driving force in the pursuit of regional stability and peace, and should help others to also achieve this goal of common interest.
H.E. Adel bin Ahmad highlighted the similarities between Japan and Saudi Arabia, most notably the drive for democracy and the pursuit of freedom, mutual interests which have helped forged their good relations with each other. He further noted that they both were looking toward the future of good relations with neighboring countries. He mentioned new major projects they were embarking upon in hopes of reducing dependency on oil through infrastructural changes. The means by which to achieve this would present opportunities for investment in projects which might befit Japanese companies to take notice.
H.E. Ambassador Dr. Fatimie further had a pleasure in meeting with H.E. Adel bin Ahmad and expressed his appreciation on behalf of the people and the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan for the help and assistance of Saudi Arabia in the rebuilding of Afghanistan.
