September 21, 2016: His Excellency Ambassador Dr. Sayed Mohammad Amin Fatimie had the pleasure to attend the 17th Lecture on Boshi-Techo (Japanese Mother and Child Health Handbook, hosted by JOICEF at the House of Representatives.
The opening address was given by Mrs. Kiyoko Fukuda, former First Lady and Director of Parent & Child Handbook Association, who gave the reasoning behind the book’s beginnings. Dr. Masamine Jimba, professor of University of Tokyo’s Department of Community Medicine and Global Health Graduate School of Medicine, spoke on the wisdom and twists derived from using the MCH Book. Mrs. Sumie Ishii, Chairperson of JOICEF, spoke on the subsequent ‘one-stop service to save the lives of mother and newborns’ that the MCH Book has afforded. After a question & answer period, the closing address was given by Mrs. Haruko Komura, Director of Mother & Child Health Handbook Association.
As Maternal Morbidity is a concern worldwide, much attention has been paid to find ways to reduce or prevent the risk so that healthy mothers can produce and raise children well. Children hold the key to running the future, thus so too is their safety and survival paramount. The fundamental key to this, as well as to other areas of contemporary global concern, is through education and awareness. Following the event, H.E. Ambassador Dr. Fatimie spoke with Mrs. Komura to whom he expressed his thanks for hosting a very informative evening.
