December 23, 2013: Ambassador Dr. Sayed M. Amin Fatimie and the Ambassadress attended a reception at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo to celebrate the birthday of H.M. the Emperor.
On this most important of occasions, Ambassador Dr. Fatimie had the great honor to express directly to Their Majesties the Emperor and Empress warmest congratulations, on behalf of the people and Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, and kindest wishes for continued health and happiness.
Their Majesties hold a very special place in the hearts of the Afghan people, having bestowed the honor of Their visit to the nation in 1971.

Ambassador Dr. Sayed M. Amin Fatimie and the Ambassadress attended a reception hosted by H.E. Mr. Fumio Kishida, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, to celebrate the birthday of H.M. the Emperor.

Ambassador Dr. Fatimie was afforded the opportunity to wish to H.E. Minister Kishida directly sincerest congratulations, on behalf of the people and Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, on this important occasion, heartfelt wishes for continued longevity and health for H.M., and prosperity and peace for the noble Japanese people. Furthermore, Ambassador Dr. Fatimie expressed the heartfelt gratitude of all Afghans for Japan’s enduring and life-bettering cooperation in a composite of sectors. H.E. the Minister graciously offered assurances of continuing cooperation.

Ambassador Dr. Fatimie also had the honor of meeting with Chief of Protocol Shigeyuki Hiroki who had previously served capably as the Japanese ambassador to Afghanistan; Their Excellencies the Vice-Ministers of Foreign Affairs; key officials from the Ministry including H.E. Ambassador Koji Tsuruoka, the Chief Negotiator for the TPP, H.E. December 17, 2013: 
Ambassador Dr. Sayed M. Amin Fatimie met at the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in Tokyo with the Japan International Cooperation Agency’s (JICA’s) Director General Toru Arai of the South Asia Department, Director General Nobuko Kayashima of the Human Development Department, and Mr. Haruyuki Shimada of South Asia Division 2. Mr. A.G. Poya Faryabi, Minister Counsellor; and Ms. Parwana Paikan, Third Secretary, were also in attendance.

Ambassador Dr. Fatimie took the opportunity to cordially renew the deepest gratitude of the people and Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan for JICA’s dedicated and life-bettering support of Afghan peace and development. The assembled then discussed issues of mutual interest.

December 10, 2013: 
Ambassador Dr. Sayed M. Amin Fatimie met with participants of a JICA-Afghanistan Literacy Department training session. Ambassador Dr. Fatimie was briefed on the details of the program and the potential future collaborative efforts between the Literacy Department and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The Ambassador expressed deepest gratitude to JICA and its partners for the wise and generous investment in the Afghan people, citing the potential to enhance all areas of development. Ambassador Dr. Fatimie also offered encouragement to the Afghan participants, commending their efforts and asking them to take back the benefits of this program to Afghanistan.

December 10, 2013: Ambassador Dr. Sayed M. Amin Fatimie and the Diplomats of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in Tokyo welcomed once again long-time friend and prominent Afghan resident of Japan Ms. Sedeka Eto.
Ms. Eto has been one of the most cooperative and gracious persons in working with the Embassy and in providing support and council for other members of the Afghan Community in Japan. For these reasons and more, Ambassador Dr. Fatimie and the diplomats expressed deepest gratitude, on behalf of the people and Government, commemorating the sentiments by bestowing a certificate of appreciation.

December 6, 2013: Ambassador Dr. Sayed M. Amin, along with Mrs. Orya Afzali Farima, Second Secretary, welcomed to the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan a delegation from Afghanistan headed by long-time, close friend Dr. Ahmad Jan Ahmad, Executive Director of Afghan NGOs Coordination Bureau, and Japanese civil society representatives. Dr. Ahmad’s delegation consisted of Engineer Baryalai Omarzai, Director of Afghan Community Rehabilitation Unit, and Mr. Ahmad Shah Massoud, Training Manager of Agency Coordinating Body Afghan Relief. The Japanese side was represented by,, Mr. Ryo Onoyama of Japan International Volunteer Center, and Mr. Nobuhiro Kagawa of Association for Aid and Relief Japan.
The Japanese contingent has been supporting the organizations of the aforementioned Afghan delegation and others in terms of capacity building. Ambassador Dr. Fatimie expressed deepest gratitude for these efforts, stating that they are highly important at this critical juncture in Afghanistan’s fast-paced development.

Amin Fatimie welcomed to the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and to Japan Mr. Khaja Siddique, an Afghan businessman who operates in the Netherlands. The greeting was also attended by Mr. A.G. Poya Faryabi, Minister Counsellor; Mr. Mohammad Yasir Karimi, Second Secretary; Mr. Sayed Ali Asghar Amiri, Third Secretary; and Mr. Siddique’s son.
Mr. Siddique is in Japan for market research, hoping to create opportunities for an expanded Afghan business presence here. Ambassador Dr. Fatimie praised Mr. Siddique on this initiative and extended sincerest wishes for success.

15/11/2013 Ambassador Fatimie attends Japan Self-Defense Forces Band Festival at Nippon Budokan


November 15, 2013: 
Ambassador Dr. Sayed M. Amin Fatimie had the honor of attending the Japan Self-Defense Forces Band Festival at Nippon Budokan. The event featured a number of musical performances, including marching band, singing, and more. Ambassador Dr. Fatimie commented that it was a truly impressive spectacle.

November 18, 2013: Ambassador Dr. Sayed M. Amin Fatimie, along with Mr. A.G. Poya Faryabi, Minister Counsellor, welcomed to the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in Tokyo Mr. Abdul Wali Modaqiq, Deputy Director-General of the National Environment Protection Agency of Afghanistan; and Dr. Richard Paley, Country Director of Wildlife Conservation Society Afghanistan. The group was in Japan in order to take part in the 1st Asia Paks Congress, organized by the Japanese Ministry of the Environment and the International Union for Conservation of Nature. Dr. Paley presented on Establishing and Strengthening Conservation Co-Management Institutions.
Ambassador Dr. Fatimie congratulated these great guests on their dedicated efforts towards the noble cause of protecting Afghanistan’s nature.

November 1, 2013: 
Ambassador Dr. Sayed M. Amin Fatimie attended an event organized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan entitled “Oishi” to the world. The event featured Japanese cuisine, including halal products, and French cuisine incorporating Japanese ingredients.

Ambassador Dr. Fatimie had the pleasure of meeting with H.E. Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi. The Ambassador expressed sincerest gratitude for the great, life-bettering assistance that has been extended by Japan to Afghanistan’s peace and development, citing particularly the contributions to the agricultural sector. H.E. the Minister kindly in turn offered most distinguished comments, discussing His own support for Japan’s efforts in Afghanistan and for Afghanistan’s future.

Ambassador Fatimie hosts reception for participants of DCDA training in Japan

October 31, 2013: Ambassador Dr. Sayed M. Amin Fatimie and the staff of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in Tokyo held a reception to honor the participants of the 1st Training for the Dehsabz - Barikab City Development Authority (DCDA), which oversees the development of the new Kabul City, including certain surrounding areas. This training was entitled “Training on Management and Administration for Urban Development and Personnel and Legal Affairs.”
In his opening speech, Ambassador Fatimie welcomed the participants and their counterparts from the Japanese Government and partnering groups, offering encouragement for success in this important undertaking. The Ambassador expressed the sincerest appreciation of the people and Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan for the cooperation that has been extended by the noble Japanese to help bring about national development with this as a core project.
Talks were given by Mr. Alham Omar Hotaki, Leading Advisor for Marketing and Sales Advisor, and Mr. Ajmal Khan Shams, Director of City Operations and Maintence. Mr. Hotaki shared of the overall project and its progress, and Mr. Shams spoke on the training program.
In addition to Mr. Hotaki and Mr. Shams, the program was participated in by Mr. Abdul Habib Zadran, Chief Finance Officer; Mr. Furugh Izmaray, Senior Economist; andc Business Administrator for Parcels on Private Land. From the Japanese side, Mrs. Kawauchi and Mr. Shishika of T & Associates, also joined. Special appreciation is also extended to Mr. Hossein Mohammadi and Mr. Farouq Asefi for their key roles.

Amin Fatimie and the Ambassadress welcomed again to the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in Tokyo dear friends Mr. and Mrs. Nabard Yazdani of Yazdani Corporation. Mr. Yazdani is a long-time resident of Japan and a successful business man selling high-quality Afghan and international jewelry and carpets.
Ambassador Dr. Fatimie expressed renewed admiration and congratulations for the continuing success that Mr. Yazdani’s endeavors result in. The assmbled then spoke on a number of issues of shared interest over a meal.

22/10/2013 Ambassador Fatimie visits Yamanashi prefecture, meets Hon. Mayor Miyajima of Kofu, Hon. Vice-Governor Hiraide

October 22, 2013: 
Ambassador Dr. Sayed M. Amin Fatimie made an official visit to Yamanashi prefecture as a key part of his initiative to further strengthen the close bonds between the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and the prefectures of Japan. He was accompanied by Mr. Jason Pratt, Public Affairs Officer.

Ambassador Dr. Fatimie was warmly received by Hon. Mayor Masanobu Miyajima at His Honor's office. The Ambassador first and foremost expressed, on behalf of the people and Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, deepest gratitude for the generous and selfless support that has been extended by Japan in general and Kofu in particular to Afghanistan’s peace and development. Speaking on the great strides that have been made in improving the lives of the Afghan people as a result, Ambassador Dr. Fatimie stated that he looked forward to creating further mutually-beneficial partnerships. H.E. the Mayor was very receptive and cordial.


Ambassador Dr. Fatimie was then extended a great welcome by Hon. Vice-Governor Wataru Hiraide at the prefectural office. Director Hiroshi Sano of the International Affairs Division was also present for the meeting. The Ambassador took this opportunity to express to Hon. Vice-Governor Hiraide as well the sincerest gratitude of the people and Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan for the effect-generating support of Japan and within that the people and leadership of Yamanashi. Having listened to the way in which the Afghan people have truly benefitted, the Hon. Vice-Governor kindly stated that he felt even closer to Afghanistan. Ambassador Fatimie said that he hopes that Afghanistan and Yamanashi will deepen their cooperation, particularly in terms of providing scholarships and fellowships to Afghan students to study in Yamanashi, a suggestion which was taken with great interest by Hon. Vice-Governor Hiraide.

Ambassador Dr. Sayed M. Amin Fatimie welcomed to the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in Tokyo Mr. Shinichi Baba, Director of Ambassador Fatimie welcomes Director Baba of the Lifelong Learning Section of the Board of Education of Fukuoka City to the Embassy, and Mr. Baba’s esteemed daughter. Ambassador Dr. Fatimie had met Director Baba on his trip to Fukuoka in September.

The Ambassador firstly expressed renewed sincerest appreciation for the generous, life-bettering cooperation extended by Japan to Afghanistan’s peace and development and also for the warm hospitality provided in Fukuoka. The two then discussed a number of issues over a meal.

Ambassador Dr. Sayed M. Amin Fatimie and the diplomats welcomed to the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Hon. Representative Mitsunari Okamoto. Mr. Okamoto, a member of the Foreign Affairs Committee, shared an Afghan-style lunch and spoke wisely on many events. In particular, the Ambassador and Hon. Representative Okamoto spoke on potentially enhancing Japanese cooperation in terms of education, private-sector investment, and in increasing the duration of the Japanese partnership with Afghanistan. 30/09/2013 Ambassador Fatimie attends event honoring H.E. Ambassador Hiroki at Lithuanian Embassy

September 30, 2013: 
Ambassador Dr. Sayed M. Amin Fatimie attended an event at the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania to honor H.E. Mr. Shigeyuki Hiroki, former Japanese Ambassador to Afghanistan. With Japanese staff partnering with the Lithuanian contingent on development projects, H.E. Ambassador Egidijus Meilunas of the Republic of Lithuania presented to H.E. Ambassador Hiroki an award on behalf of the former’s noble Government.

Ambassador Dr. Fatimie was able to address those in attendance, praising H.E. Ambassador Hiroki on His and His great nation’s life-bettering contributions to peace and development in Afghanistan. Furthermore, Ambassador Dr. Fatimie lauded H.E. Ambassador Meilunas and His noble Government for the excellent initiative, as well as the Governments of partner nations, such as the United States of America and the members of the European Union, for their respective contributions.

It is a great honor to be able to share a toast to a great man, H.E. Ambassador Shigeyuki Hiroki. 
Let me begin by expressing my deepest respect for the Government of the Republic of Lithuania for its wisdom in bestowing such a prestigious award on a deserving individual and to H.E. Ambassador Egidijus Meilunas for hosting this excellent reception.
H.E. Ambassador Hiroki is a special man who served a special role in Afghanistan. On the ground he earned the respect of the Afghan people, brought true and visible improvements to lives, enhanced bilateral relations and trilateral relations than also included the noble Republic of Lithuania, and increased awareness of Afghanistan in Japan. Furthermore, H.E. Ambassador Hiroki was crucial in setting up the success for the Tokyo Conference on Afghanistan last year, which solidified Afghanistan’s path towards continued development and self-sufficiency. The perfect man for the job, we were fortunate to have him and remain fortunate to have him as a friend still.
Ladies and gentlemen, since 2001, when the Taliban regime was overthrown and power was returned to the people of Afghanistan, our nation has achieved much. This would not have been possible to this degree without international partnerships. Allow me to also thank key nations and their representatives here tonight: the United States of America, the number one donor to our nation; Japan, the number two donor, and the European Union, the number three. Let me also state that the sacrifices made by the ISAF forces will never be forgotten. Through these brave soldiers, our people know ever-greater freedom and peace.
In closing, Let me join our great hosts and all of you in toasting this amazing man, H.E. Ambassador Hiroki as well as all of you.

26/09/2013 Ambassador Fatimie meets with Directors Ehara and Okubo of MoFA

September 26, 2013: 
Ambassador Dr. Sayed M. Amin Fatimie and Mr. Mohammad Yasir Karimi, Second Secretary, welcomed to the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in Tokyo from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan Director Takeshi Okubo of the Afghanistan Assistance Planning Division and Director Norio Ehara of the Non-Governmental Organizations Cooperation Division. The courtesy call came as Director Okubo recently was promoted to this position.

Ambassador Dr. Fatimie expressed, on behalf of the people and Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, deepest gratitude for the kind, effect-generating support that Japan and its Ministry of Foreign Affairs have extended to Afghanistan’s peace and development. The Ambassador welcomed Director Okubo to the new position and wished him well.

The guests reported that the project on an infectious disease hospital was coming to an end and was to be handed over to the Afghan Government. Furthermore, they mentioned that Japan would support a Polio vaccination drive in Afghanistan in conjunction with UNICEF and JICA.

24/09/2013 Ambassador Fatimie, Embassy host reception to honor participants of 2nd Training for Kabul Municipality in Japan

September 24, 2013: 
Ambassador Dr. Sayed M. Amin Fatimie and the diplomats and staff of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan hosted a reception in honor of the participants of the 2nd Training for Kabul Municipality in Japan. Trainings have been focused on the following: land use zoning, building control mechanism, district plans, development plans, participatory approach, urban renewal/redevelopment, consensus building process and implementation, lead readjustment methodologies and planning process, land readjustment, and more. Some 20 persons from Kabul Municipality were said to have been involved.

Joining the Embassy and the Afghan participants of the program at the reception were Japanese program leaders, including Mr. Naomichi Murooka, Adcisor of the Peace Building and Urban and Regional Development Department at JICA; and a group of prominent Afghans residing in Japan.

Opening the event with a speech, Ambassador Dr. Fatimie first and foremost offered sincerest gratitude to Japan and JICA for this latest initiative in a legacy of cooperation that has bettered lives, spurred development, and helped in the spread of peace. The Ambassador also encouraged the participants to take their new knowledge and skills back to Afghanistan to further benefit the people and to contribute to the reawakening of glorious development and culture.



Speeches of encouragement were also delivered by Mr. Murooka of JICA and, in closing, Mr. Poya Faryabi, Minister Counsellor at the Embassy. Small tokens of encouragement were also provided to those in attendance.

13/09/2013 Ambassador Fatimie attends closing ceremony of “On-Farm Water Management for Afghanistan” training course.

September 13, 2013: 
Ambassador Dr. Sayed M. Amin Fatimie attended, along with Mr. Sayed Ali Asghar Amiri, Third Secretary at the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, the closing ceremony of “On-Farm Water Management for Afghanistan” FY2013 training course organized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan and the Agriculture Development Consultants Association (ADCA).

Ambassador Dr. Fatimie had the opportunity to address the participants, following speeches by Director Yukiharu Harada of ADCA and Deputy Director Isao Yamashita of the Ministry’s International Cooperation Division. In his speech, the Ambassador firstly expressed greatest gratitude in general to Japan for its selfless, life-bettering cooperation in Afghanistan’s development and peace, and specifically to the Ministry and its partner the ADCA for supporting the core sector of agriculture in Afghanistan. Ambassador Dr. Fatimie further congratulated the graduates for their successful studies and encouraged them to apply what they have learned in Afghanistan.

11-12/09/2013 Ambassador Fatimie visits Fukuoka, meets with Hon. Mayor, Hon. Vice Gov., attends Dr. Nakamura’s award ceremony.

September 11-12, 2013: 
Ambassador Dr. Sayed M. Amin Fatimie made an official visit to Fukuoka prefecture. An important partner in Afghanistan’s development both on a people to people level and a Government to Government level, this visit was highly significant.

Ambassador Dr. Fatimie firstly was extended an extremely warm welcome from Hon. Vice-Governor Etsuko Ebii (pictured above) at Her office, with the Afghan flag flying outside. Ambassador Fatimie expressed deepest gratitude, on behalf of the people and Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, for the enlightened and impact-generating support that Japan, and within this Fukuoka, has provided to socio-economic areas and to the peace process.

Ambassador Dr. Fatimie was then received very cordially by Hon. Mayor Soichiro Takashima (pictured above) of Fukuoka city. Ambassador Fatimie had the pleasure of also being able to express to His Honor sincerest appreciation, on behalf of the people and Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, for the selfless and life-bettering partnership extended by Japan and Fukuoka city in specific.

On the following day, the Ambassador had the great pleasure of attending a gathering with Their Imperial Highnesses Prince and Princess Akishino. The gathering was held in commemoration of the awarding of the Fukuoka Prize. This year, the top award of the Fukuoka Prize was awarded to Dr. Tetsu Nakamura (who can also be seen in the top photo to the side)of Peshawar-kai. Dr. Nakamura has been active in assisting vulnerable Afghan populations both within Afghanistan and in refuge in Pakistan. Following the gathering, Ambassador Dr. Fatimie and Their Imperial Highnesses both attended the ceremony to award the Fukuoka Prize. 10/09/2013 Ambassador Fatimie, Embassy host ceremony to honor graduates of PEACE scholarship program

September 10, 2013: 
Ambassador Dr. Sayed M. Amin Fatimie and the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in Tokyo hosted a ceremony to mark the successful completion of studies of several members of the PEACE scholarship program. The PEACE program is an initiative through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to bring to Japan Afghan officials for higher education. By its conclusion, it is scheduled to provide scholarships to 500 participants.



Ambassador Dr. Fatimie opened the event by greeting all in attendance. He expressed, on behalf of the people and the Government of Afghanistan, deepest gratitude to the noble Government of Japan and JICA for this future-oriented program, praising it is an investment in great developments. The Ambassador also commended the participants on their drive to complete meaningful studies, encouraging them to go back to Afghanistan empowered and as forces for further betterment of the nation.

The event also featured presentations on the research of the students being recognized. The students’ names are as follows:

19/08/2013 Ambassador Fatimie's National Day message published in the Japan Times

 
August 19th, 2013: Monday marked the 94th anniversary of Afghanistan's National Day. For the occasion, Ambassador Dr. Sayed M. Amin Fatimie wrote a National Day message which was then published in the Japan Times. His article, "With bright future, ties will strengthen", highlighted the growth in the relationship between Afghanistan and Japan. He focused on the many beneficial developments Japan's friendship has brought Afghanistan and the Afghan people.

The Ambassador was joined by Toshihiro Nikai who wrote a piece entitled "Further prosperity in store for Afghanistan in next 12 months." The Ambassador's National Day message was also published in Japanese.

August 5, 2013: Ambassador Dr. Sayed M. Amin Fatimie welcomed to the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in Tokyo Mr. Shojiro Okuyama of the Asahi Shimbun newspaper’s Interactive News Section. Ambassador Dr. Fatimie expressed sincere gratitude for the interest that this leading publication takes in the Embassy and expressed his expectation that fair coverage would be given.
Mr. Okuyama also spoke with Mr. Jason Pratt, the Embassy’s Public Affairs Officer about the Embassy’s social media activities.

31/07/2013 Ambassador Fatimie attends Iftar reception hosted by H.E. Prime Minister Abe

July 31, 2013: 
Ambassador Dr. Sayed M. Amin Fatimie had the distinct pleasure of attending an Iftar reception hosted by H.E. Prime Minister Shinzo Abe at H.E. the latter’s office in Tokyo. Iftar is the meal that comes with the breaking of the fast in the holy month of Ramadan, as recognized and held in reverence by Muslims. The auspicious event was attended by ranking representatives of the Japanese Government and Their Excellencies the Ambassadors of Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) member states.



H.E. Prime Minister Abe opened the event by addressing the attendees. Stressing His intention to further foster friendly relations with the Islamic world, H.E. the Prime Minister mentioned that He has already began making visits to nations represented that evening.

Following H.E. Prime Minister Abe, H.E. Ambassador H.E. Mr. Sid Ali Ketrandji spoke in representation of Their Excellencies the OIC representatives, as did H.E. Former Prime Minister Yoshiro Mori; and Hon. Mr. Natsuo Yamaguchi, head of the New Komeito party.

Ambassador Dr. Fatimie was afforded the great honor of speaking with H.E. Prime Minister Abe, to whom the Ambassador firstly expressed heartfelt appreciation, on behalf of the people and Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, for the generous and life-bettering cooperation that the Japanese Government and people have extended in towards socio-economic development and the further spread of peace. Ambassador Dr. Fatimie stated that this manifestation of the nations’ friendship would never be forgotten in Afghanistan. H.E. the Prime Minister, who kindly recalled Ambassador Dr. Fatimie’s service as Minister of Public Health, assured that such cooperation would only continue in order to realize H.E. the Prime Minister’s vision of greater peace in Afghanistan. The Ambassador responded that through H.E. Prime Minister Abe’s leadership and the Japanese initiatives to this end, this dream could be realized.

Ambassador Dr. Fatimie was able to interact with a number of other esteemed attendees. Having the chance to speak with H.E. Mr. Fumio Kishida (pictured below), Ambassador Dr. Fatimie reiterated the enduring gratitude of the Afghan people and Government. H.E. the Foreign Minister kindly expressed the same sentiment as H.E. the Prime Minister that the Japanese Government is dedicated to continuing its cooperation with Afghanistan. Furthermore Ambassador Dr. Fatimie met with H.E. Parliamentary Vice-Minister of the Environment Ken Saito; H.E. Ambassador Shigeyuki Hiroki, Chief of Protocol at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; H.E. Senior Vice-Minister of the Cabinet Office Yasutoshi Nishimura, and Director-General Makio Miyagawa of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan’s Middle Eastern and African Affairs Bureau. Ambassador Fatimie further had the opportunity to speak to Their Excellencies the Ambassadors of present that evening and to wish them the blessings of the holy month.

05/07/2013 Ambassador Fatimie visits Tochigi, meets with Hon. Gov. Fukuda, Hon. Mayor Sato; key friends

July 5, 2013: 
Ambassador Dr. Sayed M. Amin Fatimie traveled to Tochigi prefecture as part of his initiative to further strengthen ties with the local areas of Japan. The Ambassador was accompanied by Mr. Jason Pratt, Public Affairs Officer; and Mr. Kazuo Aoki of the NGO GHG Emissions Trading Agency.

During this universally warmly-received visit, Ambassador Dr. Fatimie was able to meet with Hon. Governor Tomikazu Fukuda (pictured above), Hon. Mayor Eichi Sato (pictured below) of Utsunomiya, and President Yoshinori Kando (pictured 2nd from bottom) of Shimotsuke Shimbun newspaper. He also had the opportunity to visit a school that has hosted Afghan cultural events in the past, Mustumi Gakko. In meeting with both of Their Honors, the Governor and the Mayor, Ambassador Dr. Fatimie was able to express the deepest gratitude of the people and Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan for the life-bettering, peace-spreading cooperation extended by Japan, and within this Tochigi and Utsunomiya in specific, to Afghanistan. Both of Their Honors were gracious in their time, Their understanding of the present progress, and Their willingness to continue adapt cooperation in light of current realities. In His meeting with President Yoshinori Kando of Shimotsuke Shimbun newspaper, Ambassador Fatimie stated that the newspaper has done much to improve the local awareness of the true nature of Afghanistan and the Embassy’s activities, which have brought Tochigi and Shimotsuke’s people and the people of Afghanistan closer together. At Mutsumi Gakko, a pre-school, administrators, including Ms. Mutsumi Ogura, and children (pictured bottom-most) extended the warmest possible welcome. Children sang songs, played traditional drums, and prepared lunch for the Ambassador and his contingent. Ambassador Dr. Fatimie expressed that the warmth and intelligence of these children was proof of a bright future for Japan in general and also for Afghan-Japanese relations.

03/07/2013 Ambassador Fatimie meets with DG Miyagawa at MoFA Japan

July 3, 2013: 
Ambassador Dr. Sayed M. Amin Fatimie paid a visit to the office of Mr. Makio Miyagawa, Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan’s Middle Eastern and African Affairs Bureau. Ambassador Fatimie was extended a very warm welcome.

Ambassador Dr. Fatimie firstly expressed, on behalf of the people and Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, deepest gratitude for the generous and life-bettering partnership that Japan has extended. Within this, Ambassador Dr. Fatimie sincerely praised the Mr. Miyagawa for his dedicated, hands-on role that he has played in the key position of Director General as well as during his tenure as Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan. The two friends then discussed the development taking place in Afghanistan.

02/07/2013 Ambassador Fatimie welcomes Mr. Nakahara and Mr. Arai of JICA

July 2, 2013: 
Ambassador Dr. Sayed M. Amin Fatimie and the diplomatic staff welcomed Mr. Masataka Nakahara, Visiting Director General at the South Asia Department of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and Senior Advisor on Afghanistan, and Mr. Toru Arai, also Director General of South Asia Department.

The Ambassador renewed his deepest appreciation, on behalf of the people and Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, for JICA’s contribution to developing education, health, and agricultural both rurally and in urban areas in Afghanistan. Both honorable guests assured that they will continue to cooperate for constant gains in those fields, especially in the education. They also called for support for Afghan graduates from study in Japan, to whom they provided scholarships, in their future careers in Afghanistan.

Ambassador Dr. Sayed M. Amin Fatimie met with former JICA President Madame Sadako Ogata

Last week, it was announced that the fifth phase of Afghanistan's Security Transition was set to begin. This is the final stage in the transition of full security to the Afghan people. With the security transition nearly complete, the Government of Afghanistan will redouble its efforts to empower Afghan women.

Ambassador Dr. Fatimie expressed his deep appreciation for the important role that Madame Ogata has played in JICA and her efforts to promote peace in Afghanistan. As such, she has earned tremendous respect within the Afghan community. The Ambassador discussed the many Afghan students who have been able to study in Japan through JICA's support. These students have gone on to do great things, including work in university education and high government office,

Madame Ogata expressed her gratutude to the Afghan people and government for their friendship and cooperation, and shared her warm feelings for the country. She reiterated that agriculture is crucial for Afghanistan's development, and recommended further industrialization.

24/06/2013 Ambassador Fatimie attends meeting with JICA President Tanaka

June 24, 2013
Ambassador Dr. Sayed M. Amin Fatimie attended a meeting at the offices of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) with JICA President Akihiko Tanaka.

Ambassador Dr. Fatimie expressed his appreciation, on behalf of the people and Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, for JICA’s cooperation. Cooperation from the International Community and JICA’s contributions in health and education have been crucial for the development and the peace spreading in Afghanistan. The Ambassador expressed his hope that JICA will continue its cooperation in the future.

Ambassador Dr. Fatimie believes that Afghanistan will consolidate its young democracy through this help of International Community and JICA’s cooperation.

President Tanaka made assurnaces, on behalf of JICA, that cooperation in development and the peace process in Afghanistan will continue.

14/06/2013 Ambassador Fatimie meets with Mr. Suda of NHK

June 14, 2013: Ambassador Dr. Sayed M. Amin Fatimie met with Mr. Masaki Suda of NHK, welcoming him warmly to the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in Tokyo. Mr. Basir Hamdard, Second Secretary and Consul; and Mr. Jason Pratt, Public Affairs Officer; were also in attendance.
Mr. Suda will soon begin serving as NHK’s bureau chief in charge of Afghanistan’s coverage. Ambassador Fatimie expressed gratitude for the attention that Afghanistan has been given by NHK. Ambassador Fatimie wished Mr. Suda the best of luck in his assignment and requested that he show the true beauty and peace-loving nature of the nation.

05/06/2013 Ambassador Fatimie attends Reception for Japanese Mayors hosted by H.E. Foreign Minister Kishida

June 5, 2013: 
Ambassador Dr. Sayed M. Amin Fatimie attended a reception for the Mayors of the Municipalities of Japan, hosted by H.E. Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida at the Iikura House. The regularly organized reception allows for the international community and key Japanese figures to meet with the leaders and representatives of municipalities from throughout Japan.

Ambassador Dr. Fatimie was able to meet with the head of the Mayors’ Association, Hon. Mayor Tamio Morii of Nagaoka city. As the Ambassador prioritizes relations between with Japan’s prefectures and municipalities, he expressed, on behalf of the people and Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, deepest gratitude for the warm reception that he has been given by local leaders and for the role of these esteemed leaders and their respective communities in Japan’s overall life-bettering support to development and peace in Afghanistan. 

Ambassador Dr. Fatimie had then the honor to greet a number of the Honorable Mayors in attendance, including, in alphabetical order of city names, Hon. Mayor Shigemitsu Hosoe of Gifu, Hon. Mayor Koji Nomura of Hagi, Hon. Mayor Eikoh Tsuya of Kitaakita, Hon. Mayor Hiroaki Yamamoto of Masuda, Hon. Mayor Tamio Mori of Nagaoka, Hon. Mayor Tomihisa Taue of Nagasaki, Hon. Mayor Tooru Umino of Naka, Hon. Mayor Isoo Sasako of Natori, Hon. Mayor Akinari Takehisa of Setouchi, Hon. Mayor Norihiko Kataoka of Tokoname, and Hon. Mayor Takeuchi Isao of Tottori. Ambassador Dr. Fatimie was also fortunate enough to meet with representatives of Japan's central government, including Hon. Representative Katsutoshi Kaneda and from the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs H.E. Parliamentary Senior Vice-Ministers for Foreign Affairs Masaji Matsuyama (pictured above); H.E. Ambassador Sumio Kusaka (pictured below), Chief of Protocol; and Ms. Kanako Kobayashi of the Local Partnership Cooperation Division. To these friends, Ambassador Dr. Fatimie was able to renew the sincerest appreciation of the Afghan people and Government for the impact-generating, generous cooperation that Japan overall and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs within has extended to Afghanistan.
