October 22, 2013:
Ambassador Dr. Sayed M. Amin Fatimie made an official visit to Yamanashi prefecture as a key part of his initiative to further strengthen the close bonds between the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and the prefectures of Japan. He was accompanied by Mr. Jason Pratt, Public Affairs Officer.

Ambassador Dr. Fatimie was warmly received by Hon. Mayor Masanobu Miyajima at His Honor's office. The Ambassador first and foremost expressed, on behalf of the people and Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, deepest gratitude for the generous and selfless support that has been extended by Japan in general and Kofu in particular to Afghanistan’s peace and development. Speaking on the great strides that have been made in improving the lives of the Afghan people as a result, Ambassador Dr. Fatimie stated that he looked forward to creating further mutually-beneficial partnerships. H.E. the Mayor was very receptive and cordial.

Ambassador Dr. Fatimie was then extended a great welcome by Hon. Vice-Governor Wataru Hiraide at the prefectural office. Director Hiroshi Sano of the International Affairs Division was also present for the meeting. The Ambassador took this opportunity to express to Hon. Vice-Governor Hiraide as well the sincerest gratitude of the people and Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan for the effect-generating support of Japan and within that the people and leadership of Yamanashi. Having listened to the way in which the Afghan people have truly benefitted, the Hon. Vice-Governor kindly stated that he felt even closer to Afghanistan. Ambassador Fatimie said that he hopes that Afghanistan and Yamanashi will deepen their cooperation, particularly in terms of providing scholarships and fellowships to Afghan students to study in Yamanashi, a suggestion which was taken with great interest by Hon. Vice-Governor Hiraide.

Ambassador Fatmie also would like to express special gratitude to President Masakazu Ikeda, his esteemed family, and the staff of Hotel Kimiyoshi in Yamanashi, who provided an excellent stay and friendly hospitality.
