April 23, 2015: Afghan cuisine boasts tantalizing vitality and a unique blend of influences from around the world. As Zahir-ud-din Muhammad Babur said 500 years ago, “Kabul is the meeting point of East and West, South and North”. Such a reality is richly expressed in Afghanistan's many regional and national dishes and it was a great honor for His Excellency Ambassador Dr. Fatimie and Ambassadress Fatimie to share a lunch showcasing Afghan cuisine with Mainichi Shimbun journalists Rika Sakai and Robert Sakai-Irvine as part of their project "Embassy Eats".
The vision behind Embassy Eats is to use food as a means of accessing and understanding another culture. Food is used to pick peoples’ intrigue about other countries. H.E. Ambassador Dr. Fatimie used this valuable opportunity to promote Afghan culture and history and provide another aspect of the country, which the Japanese public will view when the lunch is featured in a full-length article by Mainichi Shimbun and is expected to receive about 48,000 readers per week plus many more from schools, universities, organisations and NGOs.
The Embassy is looking forward to sharing with the public the finer details of the publication when it is released in the weeks ahead.
