July 10, 2018: His Excellency Ambassador Dr. Bashir Mohabbat had pleasure of meeting with Hon. Dr. David M. Malone, Rector of the United Nations University and Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations at United Nations University, at the UN University in Tokyo. Also in attendance was Mr. Mohammad Asif Agah, Second Secretary, representing the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Embassy.
H.E. Ambassador Dr. Mohabbat extended his deep appreciation to Hon. Dr. David M. Malone’s for making time in his schedule to meet. Additionally he extended his congratulations to Hon. Dr. Malone on hiss reappointment as the Rector of UN University through to 2023. In return, Hon. Dr. Malone thanked H.E. Dr. Mohabbat for his sincere words and for making time in his schedule to meet. He also expressed his wishes for continual success in the relations between the United Nations and Afghanistan.
Further, H.E. Dr. Mohabbat expressed his hopes that the UN University would endeavor to consider increasing scholarship opportunities for Afghan students at their institution in order to help continue the human capacity development of Afghanistan for maximizing progress. H.E. Dr. Mohabbat also took the opportunity to express his gratitude on behalf of the people and Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan for the continuous and substantive assistance and proactive work the United Nations and its many sub-groups has conducted in Afghanistan during the process of rebuilding and actualization of peace. Hon. Dr. Malone assured H.E. Dr. Mohabbat that the United Nations would continue to stand with Afghanistan well into the future and to be certain to help build stronger and more profound relations between Afghanistan and the international community so that together they could assure the cooperative and all inclusive route to regional, and thus global, peace. He also said that the PhD and Master's programs at UN University have highly competitive entrances but that hopefully in the future there might be a way to secure more scholarship opportunities for Afghan students.
