Luncheon Reception for the Masters’ and PhD PEACE and MEXT Scholar Graduates.

March 6, 2017: H.E. Ambassador Dr. Sayed Mohammad Amin Fatimie had the pleasure of hosting a luncheon reception at the embassy to celebrate and congratulate 63 Afghan scholars who had completed their studies in Japan to earn their Master’s Degree and PhD programs through Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA)’s PEACE Program and the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology (MEXT) Research Scholarship Program. Also in attendance to greet the honored guests were Mr. Ahmad Ghafoori, First Secretary; Mr. Basir Hamdard, First Secretary; Mr. Asif Agah, Second Secretary; and all the local staff and interns of the Embassy of Afghanistan in Japan.

These Afghan scholars worked on their studies and research inside the hallowed halls of many various, prestigious universities throughout all of Japan thanks to the kind support and sponsorship of the people & Government of Japan, MOFA Japan, MEXT, JICA, JICE, the Japan Foundation and other similar groups. Human Capital is the most blessed resource Afghanistan has and is the fundamental building blocks with which the hopes for Afghanistan’s continued growth, development, and future progress will be built upon. By focusing on specialized fields of study in Japan, these graduating scholars trained in Japan will return to Afghanistan with their newly acquired wealth of knowledge and life experiences, and will work as the foundation for rebuilding of the nation by utilizing their acquired specialty hence accelerating the development.

The reception began with an opening address by Mr. Agah. Following this, H.E. Ambassador Dr. Fatimie gave his opening remarks to the students, congratulating them on their monumental successes and charging them with the responsibility of taking their bright lights of knowledge back to Afghanistan and helping it to burn even brighter. He also thanked the representatives of MOFA Japan, MEXT, JICA, and JICE for their continuous support to Afghanistan through peace producing programs such as these. Next, Mr. Daisuke Fukumori, Senior Deputy Director of JICA’s South Asia Department addressed all present.

He was followed by a speech by Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology’s Master’s graduate, Mr. Ghulam Hussain Poya, MEXT Scholar Student Representative, who expressed his gratitude for programs such as the one he was a part of to help bring peace and prosperity to Afghanistan by way of education. Tokai University Master’s graduate Mr. Zabiholla Tahery, PEACE Program Scholars Representative also gave a speech of thank and appreciation for the opportunity he had been offered which helped him to further his research which he sincerely hoped would literally and figuratively help rebuild Afghanistan. Last speech was given by Tokyo University of Agriculture’s PhD Graduate Mr. Abdul Qayom Rezaei who presented a summary of his research thesis work involving nitrogen fixing in yam plants.

After all had spoken, Mr. Agah invited the guests to partake in the Afghan dishes prepared in their honor by the Embassy which were served for all to enjoy. Following the luncheon, H.E. Dr. Fatimie presented the graduates with certificates of completion, congratulated each scholar on their great accomplishment, and expressed his hopes, wishes, and prayers for their continued successes. At the conclusion of the reception, all guests present partook in a group photo, to commemorate the auspicious occasion.
