February 23, 2020: H.E. Ambassador Dr. Bashir Mohabbat was honored with the opportunity to attend the 60th birthday ceremony of His Majesty the Emperor of Japan, which is also the National Day of Japan, at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo.
Considering the excellent and historical relations between the two nations and the personal roles of Their Majesties the Imperial Family of Japan, this annual celebration is considered to be a most celebratory occasion. Having the opportunity to personally greet His Majesty the Emperor, H.E. Dr. Mohabbat conveyed, on behalf of H.E. President Dr. Mohammad Ashraf Ghani, and the Government and people of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, sincerest congratulations, and wishes for happiness and fulfillment in what is hoped to be a long and prosperous life. In addition, H.E. Dr. Mohabbat expressed to His Majesty the Emperor the gratitude of the aforementioned for the noble nation of Japan’s effect-generating cooperation that has been extended to Afghanistan.
H.E. Dr. Mohabbat had the further honor of interacting with other members of Their Imperial Highnesses of the Imperial Family and conveying congratulations to them as well. As the event was also attended by all the heads of the missions from around the world stationed in Tokyo, along with their respected spouses, H.E. Ambassador Mohabbat also had the pleasure to greet them.

November 18, 2019: H.E. Ambassador Dr. Bashir Mohabbat had the honor of meeting with Special Adviser to the Cabinet and Senior Fellow of Keidanren, the Hon. Mr. Isao Ijima, at his office in the Prime Minister’s secretariat in Tokyo.
Hon. Mr. Ijima is a longtime senior adviser of the Japanese government, currently serving as a direct adviser to His Excellency Mr. Shinzo Abe, Prime Minister of Japan. Previously, he advised former Prime Minister Mr. Junichiro Koizumi, and holds a seat in the Strategic Committee of advising firm Avisa Partners. H.E. Ambassador Dr. Mohabbat began by thanking Hon. Mr Ijima and the Prime Minister’s office for successfully coordinating an excellent Official Visit meeting between H.E. President Dr. Mohammad Ashraf Ghani and H.E. Prime Minister Mr. Shinzo Abe. Furthermore, H.E. Dr. Mohabbat expressed his deep gratitude to the people and Government of the friendly and noble nation of Japan for their generous steadfast and benevolent support of Afghanistan over the years. Most importantly, H.E. Dr. Mohabbat kindly requested Hon. Mr. Ijima to use the influence of his office to help further investment by Japan in the private sector businesses of Afghanistan, particularly in mining natural and rare metals like lithium. As the lithium deposits found in Afghanistan are valued at one trillion USD, the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan hopes that Japan will continue its generous support of the Islamic Republic’s mission to maximally utilize the resources at its disposal. The gentlemen further discusses holding a seminar for economic societies in Japan to promote investment in Afghanistan and import Afghanistan products at the Embassy in the near future.

October 31st, 2018: In recognition of their outstanding services towards promoting the relations between the people and Government of Afghanistan and Japan, His Excellency President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani via video conference to the Embassy of Afghanistan in Japan, held a ceremony to present Honorary medals to five individuals affiliated with Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for their contribution in assisting the Urban Development Sector of Afghanistan. His Excellency Ambassador Dr. Bashir Mohabbat and the members of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in Japan were proud to host the Japan-side Honorary Medal Award ceremony.

Among the honorees were Mr. Shinichi Kitaoka, President of JICA, Mr. Shohei Hara, Director-General of the South Asia Department, JICA, Mr. Takeshi Watanabe, Chief Representative of JICA Afghanistan Office, Mr. Toshiyuki Iwama, Representative of JICA Afghanistan Office, and Mr. Kenji Takahashi, Team Leader of the Technical Assistance Project: Development Service Land Readjustment and Urban Redevelopment for Kabul Municipality. The Honorary Medals were conferred to the recipients by His Excellency President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani in Kabul, presented on their behalf to H.E. Ambassador Mr. Mitsuji Suzuka, of the Embassy of Japan in Kabul, present at the Office of the President in Kabul.

At the award ceremony, the Senior Vice-President of JICA, Mr. Yamada, gave his remarks on the expected future support from JICA to the urban development sector of Afghanistan. Mr. Takahashi, JICA’s technical assistance project’s team leader, presented a briefing of JICA’s urban planning and development initiatives and progress in Kabul to H.E. President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani. Pleased to see the dedication and enthusiasm from JICA, H.E. President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani expressed his gratitude and appreciation to JICA and the Government of Japan on behalf of the people and Government of Afghanistan, reaffirming that Japan’s benevolent support and assistance to Afghanistan has been “effective and comprehensive” and that the two countries have “deep rooted cultural and historical relations.” Both parties also had the chance to spend some time discussing the ongoing and upcoming urban development programs and the preparation for a developmental framework in Kabul as well as other parts of Afghanistan.

The medal awards bestowed on this occasion are regarded as a gesture of appreciation from the people and Government of Afghanistan to the people and Government of Japan for the steadfast friendship with Afghanistan during the rebuilding process, helping to bring Afghanistan to its current progress and achievements.
