UNICEF and JICA Signing Ceremony for “Promoting Maternal and Child Health Handbook”.

August 29, 2018: It was an honor and pleasure for His Excellency Ambassador Dr. Bashir Mohabbat to welcome representative members from UNICEF Japan and JICA at the Embassy of Afghanistan in Tokyo for the grand signing ceremony of the implementation phase of the "Promoting Maternal and Child Health Handbook" (MCH) in many provinces of Afghanistan.

H.E. Ambassador Dr. Mohabbat and all of the Diplomats of the embassy welcomed the distinguished guests from both delegations. In his opening remarks, H.E. Dr. Mohabbat deeply thanked UNICEF, JICA, and the people and Government of Japan for the consistent support and tireless work they continue conducting in Afghanistan. By reciting a quote from the Prophet Mohammad, Peace be Upon Him, H.E. Dr. Mohabbat hallmarked heaven being at the foot of mothers, and therefore "so too must we then remember that we all come into this world due to the love and care of mothers, and so we must ensure that they are in return loved and cared for so that they can instill in the future generations the same perpetual love and care. The circle of care, nurturing, health, development, and information must continue and improve. It is vital for mothers and children to have a good start to ensure fitness to face and succeed in life, and carry forth the ripples of peace in the world." Mr. Mioh Nemoto, Director ad interim of the UNICEF Tokyo Office, thanked H.E. Dr. Mohabbat and the Diplomats for the warm welcome, and highlighted the importance of supporting the well-being of mothers in Afghanistan via the auspices of the newly implemented MCH Handbook Project. Final remarks were given by Mr. Junichi Yamada, Senior Vice President of JICA, who expressed the intentions for the project to address prior concerns regarding young mothers and children in Afghanistan as they progress from gestation through to adolescence. He concluded by thanking H.E. Dr. Mohabbat for hosting the signing reception at the embassy.

Following the signing of the agreement of “Promoting Maternal and Child Health Handbook” by Mr. Takeshi Watanabe, Chief Representative Afghanistan Office of JICA, and Mr. Mio Nemoto, H.E. Dr. Mohabbat again expressed his wholehearted thanks and appreciation to UNICEF Japan, JICA, and the noble people of Japan for their continuous and benevolent assistance toward Afghanistan. He then invited all present to take part in the luncheon of Afghan foods prepared by the embassy in honor of the occasion.

Meeting with Hon. Dr. Shinichi Kitaoka, JICA President, at his office in JICA HQ

April 7th, 2017: It was a great pleasure for His Excellency Dr. Sayed Mohammad Amin Fatimie to meet with JICA’s President, Honorable Dr. Shinichi Kitaoka, at JICA Headquarters. Also in attendance was Dr. Bashir Mohabbat, Minister-Councillor for the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in Japan as well as Hon. Mr Keiichiro Nakazawa, Director General for JICA's South East Asia Department, and Hon. Mr. Masaya Fujimoto, Deputy Driector General for South Asia 2 and # of JICA's South Asia Department.

Thanks to the great efforts from JICA, Japan has been able to be one of the major contributors to the reconstruction of Afghanistan’s infrastructure and to the rehabilitation of the agriculture sector, education, infrastructure building, and many other sectors. H.E. Ambassador Dr. Fatimie thanked Hon. Dr. Kitaoka for making time in his schedule to meet with him. H.E. Dr. Fatimie further thanked him for the long time friendly relationships between Japan and Afghanistan as well as between themselves. He expressed his thanks to the people and Government of the noble nation of Japan who have sincerely helped Afghanistan achieve great strides in progress on the road towards stability, peace, and prosperity. In return Dr. Kitaoka thanked H.E. Dr. Fatimie for meeting with him, his kind words, and assured him of Japan’s continued support of Afghanistan in its development. H.E. Ambassador Dr. Fatimie and Dr. Shinichi Kitaoka further discussed topics of mutual interest and their hopes for continuing the partnership between Japan and Afghanistan.
