Attendance at Funeral Service For His Imperial Highness Prince Mikasa

November 4, 2016: His Excellency Ambassador Dr. Sayed Mohammad Amin Fatimie attended the funeral service for His Imperial Highness Prince Mikasa at the Toshimagaoka Imperial Graveyard in Tokyo. H.I.H. Prince Mikasa’s 93-year-old widow, Her Imperial Highness Princess Yuriko served as the chief mourner, with Grand Chamberlain Chikao Kawai of the Imperial Household Agency representing the Imperial Highnesses Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko.

The service was attended by about 560 people including 15 Imperial family members; H.E. Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, members of his Cabinet, and members of the Diet; Their Excellencies the Ambassadors of missions to Japan; and a number of other dignitaries.

At the service, there was a recitation of a prayer and the ceremonial offering of a tamagushi tree branch. Ambassador Dr. Fatimie would like to express his deepest condolences, on behalf of the people and the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, during this time of mourning to the Imperial Family and the Government and people of Japan.
