Meeting with Hon. Dr. David M. Malone, Rector of UN University

July 10, 2018: Mr. Mohammad Asif Agah, Second Secretary, representing the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Embassy had the great pleasure meeting the Rector of the United Nations University Tokyo Honorable Dr. David M. Malone. Also in attendance was His Excellency Ambassador Dr. Bashir Mohabbat from the Afghanistan Embassy.
Mr. Agah expressed his sincerest gratitude towards Hon. Dr. David M. Malone’s for giving him the great pleasure to meet him in his office. He also extended his congratulations to Hon. Dr. Malone on his reappointment as the Rector of UN University through to 2023. Conversely, Hon. Dr. Malone thanked Mr. Agah for his genuine words and for meeting him at his office in the UN University. He also expressed his wishes for continual success in the relations between the United Nations and Afghanistan.
Additionally, and in accordance with H.E. Dr. Mohabbat, Mr. Agah expressed his hopes that the UN University would endeavor to consider increasing scholarship opportunities for Afghan students at their institution to continue the human capacity development of Afghanistan for maximizing progress. Mr. Agah and H.E. Dr. Mohabbat also expressed their gratitude on behalf of the people and Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan for the continuous and substantive assistance and proactive support from the United Nations and its many sub-groups. Hon. Dr. Malone assured Mr. Agah that the United Nations would continue to stand with Afghanistan and to be certain to ameliorate the profound relations between Afghanistan and the international community – so that together they could assure the cooperative and all-inclusive route to regional, and thus global, peace. He also said that the Ph.D. and Master's programs at UN University have highly competitive entrances but that hopefully in the future there might be a way to secure more scholarship opportunities for Afghan students.
